Trish and I have had Geico insurance for over 30 years for our bikes and cars. Read several comments on here about Progressive being cheaper for Motorcycles. Put it off for a couple years and then after another rate increase in price by them called Progressive last year and switched. Saved about 20-25%.
For the last few years have thought we paid too much for car insurance. We are in our mid 60s, I work from home and we don't drive a lot of miles anymore. We have been paying $1500 every six months for our 3 older cars. 2004 Lexus GX470, 2012 Mustang GT Convertible, and a 2001 Ford Excursion 7.3 Diesel. Neither of us have had tickets or accidents in over 5 years. Couple Comp claims for glass. Sold the Excursion and bought a 2011 Lexus LS600. Geico wanted to raise our rates another $100 every 6 months. Finally got pissed and called around. 2 other companies were within 10%.
Called Progressive and their rate was 40% of Geico's 6 month rate. $750 every 6 months. Only catch was we had to use their app "Snapshot" on each of our cell phones. They say it monitors how fast we take off and hard stops. Since neither of those are an issue for us we changed. After a few months are happy. Haven't received my first report on my driving yet. Based on driving they can modify the rate.
Has anyone else used Progressive Snapshot App to get discounts on car insurance? Dan & Trish

That’s significant savings and tempting but I do despise the big brother approach. Makes me wonder what their parameters are and how the app picks up and transmits the info.

They wanting you (me) use their snapshot app is a flat "NO" from me. They have no business knowing your driving habits until you file a claim.

BTW - I've used State Farm exclusively since I started driving (age 14 - now 62). Give them a check. I get endorsements my agent can't get yet (never cancel is one of them).

Although I'll never use the "Big Brother" option, been with Progressive for my motorcycles (USAA for the cages) since 2000, and last year they pretty much made me a customer for life (Unless they really do a stupid)...
After Kali's booboo in West Virginia, instead of totaling my '98 Standard with 135,000 miles on it, they gave me $6,800 to fix some mostly cosmetic issues.....

yah, have used Progressive monitoring as well as Allstate. The unit plubs into your fuse box port. We saved about 14 percent discount on each of 5 vehicles but then after 1 year they jacked up the rate about same 14% so only got discount for 1 year is all.
I hated the BEEP noise if I had to slam on the brakes or from a stop speed up quickly beeping again. It also monitors nightime driving as well as mileage driven also both criteria on reducing rates . I say if do not mind being monitored, will save 10-20 percent depending on usage of vehicle. Just remember that 10-20 percent reduction will most likely go away after the first year or so.
For me, Progressive keeps jacking up my rate for NO reason other than had more payouts in my area which is a crock of _hit since live in a rural small town and am sure not many in my area use Progressive insurance nearby.
Allstate qoute is now near same amount for 5 vehicles but their cycle and home insurance is too high for me to switch to allstate.

Your best move would be find an independent agent that writes for multiple companies. I did this a few years ago and cut my car, bike and house insurance in half on all. Travelers for car and house and foremost for bikes.

Mine is only an app on our cell phone. My son has one of the Tesla dual motor cars that goes 0 to 60 in about 2.5 seconds. The only way he could get reasonable insure on it was to use a mounted Big Brother device.

Thanks for the idea, if Progressive raises ours back to where it was I'll try going to an independent agent.

Weird if you ask me since thought it had to be plugged into the cars port to gain information on what the car is doing. It was about 7 years or so ago when I did both insurance companies when my kids started driving to help lower the HIGH rates with teenage drivers.

Up til this point in time Shelter Insurance has Not made any mention of electronic tracking montering or anything of that sort-YET! May very well be on their horizon. From what I've seen and heard from others in different locales my rates seem very good. And the one claim I did file was handled quickly fairly and the claimant was happy. RIDE SAFE.

Had Progressive bike insurance for the last twenty years and they always took real good care of me. Called them last week to lower my insurance back down for the winter because we live in Northern Michigan only to be told they dont offer that service anymore but they would lower my monthly from 65 a month down to 60. I laughed and told them in that case In cancelling. They said okay c ya, by the way would you like to buy some car or home owners ? Im obviously looking for another carrier.

I will let you know in a few weeks when I call to put on the winter layaway program here in WI vs. you in Michigan. Basically, they leave comp on but take off collision and the rest since NOT riding cycles when under 40 degrees and snow on the ground. My 5 cycles are all dirt cheap since newest one is 2003, the rest 1997 to 2001 all under say 85 bucks per year for full coverage. Adds up though to over 300 bucks per year in premiums, but still dirt cheap. Now car insurance with them all 5 vehicles is another scenario. They keep jacking up my rates every 6 months to the point that they are not cheaper anymore than Allstate, etc. One would think ONLY fililng ONE deer collision comp claim with them the past 6 or more years with them they would want to keep their near claim free customers? Guess NOT!!!
