After a full day of getting a recording telling me the call couldn't be completed and to try back later, I had to call the police to do a welfare check on my Dad. Turns out he's A O K ! ! !
In the olden days you usedtocould just call the operator and ask her to check on a line to see if it's in service. She'd check and come and tell you that the phone is off the hook, or the line was disconnected, or whatever. So I figured that's what I'd do. But what phone company do you call? I couldn't remember who his provider was. I did remember they had a store next to a BBQ place we ate in so I called the BBQ place and got the name. Went on the provider's website (comcast), and there is no direct phone number for customer service like I wanted. I had to do live chat. Well after 1.5 hours, going through FIVE agents and retelling the story FIVE times, one finally sent a refresh thing to the modem which didn't do anything so they OPENED A TICKET. And that's all I got from the phone company who provides service to a phone line that isn't working.
Now what? Still don't know if he's OK. Bothered me all night. Called the police this morning and they put me in touch with the Sherrif's office. They swung by and checked in on him. GET THIS........... He's home waiting for the service technician to come and fix his phone. Talk about one hand not knowing what the other hand is doing!
I give Comcast an "F" for their service and confusion and forcing me to call the authorities when they had all the info I needed but didn't have a way of giving it to me.
I give the Palm Beach County Sherrif's office and "A+" for talking the time to help and not treating it as a nuisance. They were polite, kind, and reassuring. Greatly appreciated.
