Tony did you miss that mess on 495 this morning? Holy crap!
No I didn't.
Got up at 4:45. Put on the news mostly for WX and traffic. I learned that a tractor-trailer rolled over on 495 north bound in Chelmsford, just south of the rest area. They way they reported it, I thought it might be cleared by the time I hit that section. It didn't clear.
Traveling north on 495, I hit traffic at 119 in Littleton. I wasn't too concerned because this is typical bad traffic spot (I commuted on 495 to Westford and Acton for over 20 years). But when I crested the hill, I saw nothing but traffic. I turned on WBZ AM radio for the traffic report and sure enough, it was still the tractor trailer roll over being cleared. It was stop and go for over 30 minutes.
Usually it's 1.5 hours from my house to the Hooksett rest area. Today it was slightly over 2 hours. My bladder was just about ready to burst when I got to the rest area.
I figured my brother would also be late. He got stuck on route 2 east bound getting to 495, then stuck again going north. He stopped at the rest area in Chelmsford to phone/text me. Checked my phone and at the Hooksett rest area and learned he's not coming. His GPS said he wouldn't get to Hooksett until 9:30. I tried to call him but couldn't reach him. Called him when I got to Weirs Beach. He was already home.
I got to Weirs about 9:40 and it was packed! I was able to get a spot because somebody else was leaving. It was a zoo up there. And a very loud one at that. I had enough by 12:30 and headed to the Speedway. It was also packed. I've never seen more bikes there.
I guess COVID is over because the Canadians are back. Saw bikes from Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
Rick T also rode up. I didn't see him, but he texted that he also got stuck in the 495 mess.
You can almost always count on a bad experience on 495, especially between the Mass Pike and I-93. I stayed off 495 on the way home. Took back roads and smelled the roses.
Between the traffic, the zoo up in Laconia and being by myself, it wasn't a good Laconia experience. I miss the Good Ole' Days.
