The guy at the Harley shop said it should be no problem to just put the jack right on the oil pan and lift the bike up. I sort of believe that because it looks pretty sturdy .....The oil pan is sturdy enough that's not a problem. But to center the bike length-wise, the rear arm of the lift has to be at least plumb with the crossmember for the kickstand bracket. The flat oil pan doesn't extend that far back.
If you lift at the oil pan alone, only the front wheel will get lifted off the floor. The lift jack fulcrum point has to be shifted to the rear of the bike for a more level lift. to lift the rear wheel. Just try it yourself, taking too long to explain this.
