Tracy , I was just about to message you and this pops up.  I think of you and your loss.  I do not say I know how you feel , but feelings are personal. We both had a great loss.  Maybe they met on the other side . Bonnie is a passenger , so Don will have to drive.  angel

When most lose  a  mate ..
They have  Family or  kids  to help them out.
And  smooth things  out .

Yeah I  have  none  of that .

Tracy,

I'm saddened to read of your struggles. I hope you soon find your way through the maze of grief and sense of profound loss. I also hope you soon arrive at a place where you can begin to again focus upon all that lies before you instead of languishing in the memory of having lost all that has been. My best regards and sincerest wishes for you to have a happy holiday season!

I have followed this thread and I know we are not acquitted but I do understand (not from experience but by just being aware) your loss and how it might affect you.

From everything I have ready you are strong lady, with knowledge and a future.  I cannot, as I said, fully understand your situation only that, from what I have read, you are someone special and worthy of note in this life.

That in and of itself says you can do whatever you desire.   If I can, in any way, be of service to you, just send me a message and I will reply.

Yours Truly Carolinarider.

Thank You All !

Of course, missing My Mate/best friend is a huge loss.
When there is no one else close.

But If anyone  ever ran a  farm , and  burns  firewood solely to keep warm & feeding large  critters
Knows  the  work load  is  huge alone!
It's really the  break  downs  of  the  equipment that gets to me .
I can only fix so much. LOL the  other  day was fence , one  of the  young bulls  were in the  yard..
Grabbed a  stick and  shook it at him, was ......  well it worked , thank Goodness..  So I  had  to pound a  few T posts  in .. I'm 5' and  7' T post LOL with the  pounding tool, in an area where you  couldn't stand on anything.. Oh what Joy LOL ... Yes got it done... And  didn't Wack the  20lbs metal driver in my head!

I  do tell a few  mates on another site that I'm an ADMIN/MOD. So I  must be on that site  every day.

When I'm out in the  woods to cut.. So if they don't see me  post up for  a  few  hours or days , they need to send HELP.. LOL  Of  course I'm very careful in the  woods. But shite  can happen..

Yes I am strong . But no spring chicken... LOL 70  is way closer than 50  2funny

Just ya'll keep an eye out , I  will be  putting  a  bunch of accessories  up soon and  2 nice leather  RDL  saddles .
As soon as  I  get the  time !

Well I threw my leg over TheBeasts saddle. And took a ride.
I picked me up some new work gloves for x-mas..
And cute little Grogu socks for a buck..
When I got home I split some wood ,and cleaned it all up.
And checked the water, still slow..
For supper ,I made myself Christmas Eve fettuccine alfredo.

Tracy,

"Well I threw my leg over TheBeasts saddle. And took a ride."

Atta girl! Best therapy I've ever found, so it's reassuring to read you're also using it to your advantage! Also, it's good of you to share your experience with the rest of us. Lets us know of the trials and struggles of finding your way through your huge loss, and it also allows us to gain relief at your obvious progress... Sure good to hear (read?) from you!!!

I threw my leg over TheBeast saddle once again.
My first ride of the  year.
only went 80 mile round trip but felt good  we had  topped out to 37*
I didn't have  any Gerbings on or with me. But I wasn't cold.
Only when I  stopped . Right Carl ! You know what I  mean.

They are  calling for  a  storm, but we  shall see.

Yeah I'll just keep this  thread  a live.. And  post  the  going On's here.

The  winds here are wicked! As  is the rains !  All night long !
I am glad it's not snow, Cause I'll tell yeah, it would  be  3 feet already.

Lost power @ 11:35  last night ,I called it in, still with out power.
I was up at 4:30 am to get the genny up and running.
Yeah it takes me  about 2h to get everything done.
I even made coffee early put in my thermos cup .
So I could plug in the fridge and the deep freezer.
Have power to the water pump and living room..
They say maybe 1pm the power will be back..

We  shall see  just another  day on a  mountain .
I  had the  cattle in the  driveway last night  to eat  Undecided
But I did leave  the  top gate opened in case they wanted OUT.
After  all there isn't much protection in the  driveway for  them .
I'll have  to see if I can get a  bale  of hay out later.
Don't know  if the  old  ford can  run in the  mud!
LOL And  not to sure I  want to really find out !
Might have  to call someone  to put one  out for  me .
That has  a  4x4  tractor.

The  woodstove  keeps the  house  toasty..

Good morning Lady D, you mentioning 3 feet of snow reminds me of the first time I “met” you and Don on line. You posted pics of you riding in the tractor’s bucket in a blizzard. Don was backing up, you directing him, with the snowblower on the back clearing a path so you could feed the animals.
I thought to myself, now there’s a good country farm girl!! Lol

Morning.........
That must have  been when we had 132" of snow that year!
The  snow banks were over my head!  We lost a  horse and  2  calves that winter.
I'm very happy and  Blessed  we didn't get this storm as  snow..

The winds refuse to let up here on the mountain.
They blew pretty hard again last  night it blew over one of my ash cans  Angry
Yes it did have ash in it...
Just another day on the farm .
I did get my tractor stuck in the mud for a bit yesterday at the hay barn.
Then I realized ,what was happening ,I dropped the hay spear too soon and it hit the mud bank.
Going in to the hay barn.. So at least I could get unstuck pretty fast..
Had to find spots where there wasn't a ton of wind blowing.
Found  2 low spots to unroll some hay in to both ,
then did a un roll by the hay barn where that blocked some wind as well .
There is nothing worse than unrolling in the wind and watching blow away !
Thank goodness this isn't my first wind rodeo...
Of course only my first having to do it solo...
I use to ride around with  Don finding the calm areas...
That changes with each wind storm..

Anyhow got it done...
carry on

Thanks .. Don must have known this .

Here's this mornings fuel ,Why use elect. stove.
When I  can use free heat !

This  morning  breakfast via the  woodstove..

And  yes they are my kind  of sausages (plant) ...

I must turn the  fan off ,so the  stove  really gets  hot.
That air gap around the stove stops it from getting cooking temps with the  blower on..
Yeah I  went back to my metal plate  for the  winter..

I  can warm the  plate  with out worries.

And  flipped. Bummer ya  can't see the  steam from the  dragons nose!

She  was really pumping the  steam..

I  bet ya  did.  We  are at 8 d  of  winds gusting at times  over 40MPH..

So yesterday I made  a  pot of Chili,  Now  I  know  real chili has no beans.
But mine  has  no meat ! LOL so it's chocked  full of  many different kinds  of  beans..
Don always  liked  my base  for  chili, as  I  would  use  it to make  him Chili,
that of  course  had  meat . So once  I  could  taste the  base ,
I would then sauté  him up   some  fresh ground meat.

You can see how  nice  and  colourful my chili is,

No Dogs...
After my last of what like  10+  doggies over my life time .
I said  no more.. The ones  I  miss the  most Max (GS) Stoney (Dobie) Pumis (Samoyed/Retriever)
Besides cats  are much better for  Motorcyclist...

 Max  as a  Pup
And  all grown up at  a  150lbs.

Pumis

Stoney

He  use  to go everywhere with me  especially on dates.
If he  was leery of my date  he  came  along. He  love  Don.
Stoney even went camping with us  and  the  horses..

When I  get time  I  look for  some  of the  other doggies..

HeroBud is  about 18lbs.. He's a  big feral boy..

Yes, I  still have  plenty , LOL  I  made  a 8qt pot ..
Once  I  get tired  of  it I'll freeze  some..
But with this  5" of snow and  cold . And  3 more inches on the  way.
I  at least  can pull  a cup or  2  out of  the  big pot
and  put the  smaller  pot on the  wood stove..
By the  time  I  come  in it's pipping  hot  and  ready to eat .
Add some  Cheddar cheese  and  dive  in..

I  did  put the  plow  on the  quad. Alone  for  the  first time. I  had  helped Don many times.
And  had  to plow  our  almost a  mile  long driveway 2 times yesterday.
I don't  drop the  blade all the way, first drop it fully and  pop her up a  notch .
And was  very mindful of  the  2  bad spots  on the  driveway . I  never  went fast and  I  have  to stand  and  plow  so I can see !

I  did  OK .. even with my bald tires LOL..
And  why I  plowed  2  different times, thinking I  didn't  want to  plow  too much at once..

Tracy, I think it's pretty amazing that you soldier on alone with all this work on your big homestead.

Take your time, be careful, and please don't injure yourself.  Out there alone, there would be no one to know you were hurt (maybe carry your phone).

When I brought my Turkish wife to the US, she enjoyed working right along side me in any jobs no matter how hard or nasty.

We lived in March AFB housing, and they required you keep your place up (or kicked you out).

We were lucky enough to get one of the only five company grade (lieutenants and captains) houses on the main base (beautiful old housing).  Headquarters Fifteenth Air Force was co-located there, and this housing was top heavy with field grade and general officers.  March had been around since they flew open cockpit biplanes there.

One day I came home, and she had mowed the lawn (for the first time).  I was proud of her and told her so.  She told me a funny thing had happened when she was out mowing.  A couple senior colonel neighbor wives came over and told her officers wives did not mow the lawn, and she was setting a bad example (lest their husbands ask them to mow the lawn).  We had a good laugh about it and I told her there was no such rule and she could mow or edge or dig all she wanted.   Grin

I just came in from blowing all the snow and ice off my walks, drive, scape and truck with my big Stihl backpack blower, and right about now Southern California is looking mighty good.  Broke out the old snowmobile suit and snow pack boots (first time in years).

got to figure out how  to get you an Obama phone Tracy

or maybe one of those large screen AARP phones, when you finally turn 39    2funny smitten

my mom had one of the "Help I have fallen and cant get up " things

She would fall, the gizmo would ask "Mrs Rogers did you fall?"  "Yes" she would say
but then add "I'm fine"  but truth was she never did get up.  Thank goodness a friend was checking on
her later that day and she called the police when mom did not answer the door.

Yes they broke the door. Yes mom is ok but now in a memory unit.

Those I cant get up things come with gps and pretty cheap insurance when alone    just sayin

Honestly I don't need one.
And  lets face it up on the  mountain  where I  would need it they don't work..
They just are not a  priority for me..

A SPOT would be  better.. But I  don't need that as well.

What can I say...

Not too bad  out -1*  windy , so I'm guessing it feels  like  -18* ..
Had  to take a  walk in the  snow  barefooted..

It should be  a squeaky snow  with boots  on...
