So, knowing the carelessness of the guys that do the plowing here at the complex I decided to try and get both cars and the trike into our double garage. It took some reengineering and relocation of equipment but got it done. I cleared out a space at the front slightly wider than the back of the trike then backed it up against the front wall, then pulled Nancy's Audi in along the smaller opening side...all the while she's holding her breath & all wide-eyed. Next I pulled my Buick SUV in on the other side, it was somewhat larger than my Toyota SUV but it fit. It's cozy but all are inside and out of the weather, neatly tucked in on either side of the front wheel of the trike. Let it snow...let it snow...let it snow.

LOL! That's a shame, John. If you'll leave the cages out on the drive it is that much less you have to shovel.

LOL! That's a shame, John. If you'll leave the cages out on the drive it is that much less you have to shovel. Well, that's why we chose to not live in Nancy's house and instead stay in my 1300sq.ft. apartment. It's 2 bdrm, 2 bath w/masterbath & bedrm. Fully furnished kitchen including washer/dryer, includes NO snow removal or lawn care, 2 car attached garage, no homeowner's insurance, no property tax, etc., etc. Nancy said when she first heard the plows coming through after the last snowfall it was music to her ears cuz she didn't have to call or pay for them. We're headed to Fla. about mid-February so all we have to do turn down the heat a bit, leave a garage door opener with Toni so she can come chk things out, turn the key and head south til April if we so choose. We choose! I can pay all bills via computer. The last snowfall the temps were in the upper 20's, meanwhile in Orlando it was 74. We will think of you and Lori while we're in Florida.

Raining all day, again. Tired of it, but it beats snow. Have not had to use my snowblower in several years (knock wood).
I went out yesterday and dug a couple strategic trenches to get water away from the house, and into my big drainage trench at the bottom of my back yard.
At least my roof is not leaking (anymore, so far). It leaked after the first repair (less than before), but so far after the tear-off and reseal/shingle no more leaking through the dining room ceiling.
The corollary about aging homes and aging people living in them (me) is kind of funny. We're both doing pretty well, but every once in a while there's a little surprise (not in a good way).
Off to the dentist. No, I don't want another bridge or any implants. Just don't pull any more teeth please.

I bought a Kubota B7500 for the northern estate. Issues arose ,It is still at the southern dungeon. Called the plow company to cancel as the tractor has a pull blade and a 5 foot snow blower on the front , along with a heated cab. I need to install a cup holder for my coffee. da prez

Moved 6" of white off the sidewalks/driveway on Sunday. First big storm of the winter. Another couple inches yesterday Morning and have about the same waiting for it to quit this morning. With 6" more projected for tonight. There are several more storms off the coast lined up. So, looks like all of us will be getting lots of winter weather for a while as these storm head east.
I have used a snow shovel most of my life to remove snow. May have to think about a blower in a year or two as I get closer to 80.

A Toro snowblower is easy and not that expensive. And much better on your back than a shovel.
It works best in fluffy powdery snow, and hardly works at all in soaking wet snow/slush.
What I find amusing is the few neighbors I have who do very little to keep up their property, never shovel snow, but when I roll out the snow blower, they come outside and look wistfully at me.
I have and will help the aged and infirm, but I don't help the lazy.

I feel much the same way. We had some big winds and a several very strong storms blow over us last night. Blew one neighbors privacy fence down, tore up the other neighbors new green house up pretty well, I had no damage but the wife's Halloween pumpkins got washed through my driveway whistle and down the hill a ways. Sure am glad those pumpkins didn't get stuck in the whistle, that would have sucked big time. Regardless, got a call this morning (that I missed because I didn't have my phone on me), the neighbor who rarely speaks left a message that she wanted me to go check out her green house. Not sure what I can do about that greenhouse, it's made of light weight tubes, wasn't secured well and now looks like a total loss. She only calls when she wants something so, I'm not too worried about that greenhouse. But, if she wants help and is willing to come out of her hiding hole (outside), I'll help. Reference shoveling snow, been there done that, have no intention of doing it again. We all decide on where we want to call home, down in the deep south, we have to accept the humidity and frequent storm fronts to include the now and then hurricane. Those up north, you've got to deal with the colder temps and snow. Decisions have consequences. Rams

"Decisions have consequences." ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ So true, my decision to move here 4.5 yrs. ago after Rita passed was based on perceived need at the time; facing cancer treatment like DDT and nobody left in Florida to call upon in time of need. My youngest daughter lives nearby. A couple years ago I was actively looking to buy back in Fla. when I met Nancy. Change of plans!

We got about 1.8" of rain since a little after midnight until about two hours ago. Had some severe thunderstorm warnings and one tornado warning and two tornado watches.
No wind damage (as identified on our properly). But lots of water.
I have a weather radio and it gives alerts with a warning tone so you can turn the audio on to hear the alert. (it's usually just monitoring since the weather channel is always "on" with audio).
But the really "weird" thing, something I have never heard before, was an announcement on the weather radio when the alarm sounded.
I pushed the button to unmute the audio and the person stated that we had a severe thunderstorm warning for our area and the thunderstorms were moving NNE at 104 MPH. Now, I do not ever remember any other storm reports, where the storm was moving over one hundred miles per hour. Not winds but the movement of the storm cell itself.
Anyway, it has calmed down and things are draining as planned (with some assistance from me) and the sump pump has been working.

Rain all day from sunup. Hard and medium and constant. Winds really picked up at 3P and 20-30 from then on. I can hear it roaring through my good windows. 70 gal dumpers blowing down the street. My sump hole is uncovered for routine inspection (and listening) and it's been going constant all day. (thank goodness) My big drainage ditch at the end of my yard is full, and water under the fence and over the sidewalk is a lake. Biggest red and yellow radar cell is right on us at 7P. Sump now pumping out every 10 seconds. This thing is starting to feel Biblical. Where is Moses when you need him? I am so happy we didn't lose power. Whoever invented inhabited basements should be tarred and feathered.

love it I want to be a weather forecaster simply because what other job can you be wrong 50% of the time and still have a job? predicted 6-11 inches in southern WI and unless the heavy wet snow melted a few inches only got 5 inches of wet snow.
my 1974 snowblower on 2nd 5hp engine in near 50 years was struggling end of driveway 15 inches piled up but got it done. Just a few years ago I never used the snowblower until my hips started bothering me. Now, even if 3 inches of snow, I get out the blower. Works pretty well since pretty simple, 1 forward, 1 reverse, and HUGE metal chute nothing fancy. Even that got clogged 2x's and does not throw snow well if super heavy like it was tonight. I thought I broke a belt since the bottom auger was not spinning but all it was being the snow packed in there sort of got lucky since I work it sometimes too hard.
My neighbor age 65 just had prostate surgery and his wife colon surgery so after got done end of driveway, went over and did the end of his driveway and most of his driveway. He came out wanting to pay me and I said NO, but he insisted. Was a 20 dollar bill for 15 minutes of work is all. 5 woulda been plenty. I use to do the older lady up the street but she probably did not like me getting it done only when I had time after work say 8 p.m. since she likes to leave her house early morning and not getting up say 6 a.m. to shovel snow before work. Paid well though 20 bucks per shoveling and basically her driveway. Luckily my wife in better shape than me still likes to shovel by hand and get some exercise. Me not so much will use the snowblower if over 3 inches of the white stuff.
what irks me is the boneheads on the road putzing say 20 mph on the hwy. when roads were pretty much clear me doing 60 mph today. If you are driving 20 mph on pretty much clear roads only some 1-2 inch slushy spots, then you do not deserve to have a drivers license, get off the road.

Well they were wrong. We got 8" of white on the ground and still snowing, and the wind is blowing. Driveway shoveled, will need it again in an hour or so. Coffee time.

The best winter I ever had was in Jacksonville FL, 1987-88. Wife and me went for a beach ride on my 1981 CB750F on Christmas day.

One thing good about snow, it never causes one to take shelter or move your house into your neighbors garage.
