I have the 6 into 6 exhaust on my 99 standard, not sure what brand as they were on the bike when I got it.

They have (had) the half covers on the pipes right out of the heads. They cover the outside of the pipes for about a foot, and each are held on with a couple of little springs.

Am I rite in assuming these are there for cosmetic appearances only?

Mine are all rusted and nasty looking.
I pulled them off, which was not the easiest task I might add!!  Not sure why the springs were there as they were quite tight fitting!

Appearance yes.

And they are called heat shields (not that I would touch them after the bike is running).

Maybe you only get a 1st degree burn with them and 2d without.   Smiley

How did the pipes look underneath?

If I remember right, Rivco made the heat shields for the Cobra 6x6 pipes to cover up the bluing of a single wall pipe.

Thanks once again guys, Y'all are the greatest!!!

Funny about the 1st or second-degree burns!

The pipes underneath are a bit blued but they look WAY better than the RUSTED-UP shields!!!
However, as we all know, they mostly can't be seen unless you are laying on the ground or have it on a bike lift!
