I'm thinking about buying some 412's for the Old Girl.....after 80,000 miles, she could probably use some new shocks.....I rarely ever ride a passenger(Mercedez the blow-up doll only rode with me once), so I don't think I want to spend the $$$ on the 440's....I just can't remember what the OEM length shocks are.....12.5" or 13"??.....I'm too lazy to go look it up right now......and who do you think would have the best deal on the 412's?......Thanks guys...... cooldude

I believe the stocks are 13".  I just put a set of 412 Heavy Duty 13" on and I think they're great.  If you're over 200 lbs and/or ride with a passenger, the HD are recommended.

I think a lot of the problems people have had with the 412s is that they bought the standard shocks when they should have bought the heavy duty.

I got 13 inch 440s... if you go shorter, you might drag sooner... you go around the corners faster
than me, so I'd say don't go shorter...

You reading that North Georgia Sunday the 14th ride thread?

You need the 12.5 HD. You are shorty than me and I put the 13" on mine and wished I had put the 12 or 12.5 on mine. I have had both shocks and love the 440's. I know extra money, but with a lifetime warranty and it also have double absorbing action were the 412's only has one. And with the extra weight of the I/S I would turn loose the extra money. It cost me more in the long run. I wasn't impressed with the 412's.JMO

I had replaced my OEM's with 12.5" Prog HD412's on my IS not realizing the OEM's were 13". Myself and the wife with the shocks on full tension did rub a bit on the big bumps, but I have a CT on and with the 1/2" shorter shock, that's why we rubbed. Solo I was fine. I'[m a big guy at 290lbs and that was an issue too. My friend has 13" HD 412's on his Tourer. At 220 or so he is not so big as me and he is finding the ride is fine, even with his wife on. He did find the Progressives did not ride as firm as his OEM's did. I like a firmer ride and if I replace these again, I'll go with 440's or perhaps stick with new OEM's even though they are pricey. Some guys have put works shocks on and found them to work well. Might want to check them out at http://www.worksperformance.com/html/home.html
