Ain't very warm inside either. I usually turn the t'stat down at night and when I rolled out of bed this morning the tile floor in the bathroom felt extra cold. Since I'm not one to get up during the night, the BR visit is the first thing on the agenda when I get up but the tile almost changed my mind...almost! Apparently I wasn't paying attention last night and turned the t'stat down more than usual. I noticed all I could see from blondie was her nose poking out from under a pile of blankets, guess she doesn't like the cold either.

Our Florida plans have been delayed since she didn't get cleared to travel when meeting with her surgeon for the 2-wk follow-up. To make things worse, on that same day I woke up to a nasty case of vertigo. Two days later I'm in the ER, it was a bit better but still bad enough I wouldn't drive and unable to hit the gym. Soon as I tried to bend over to pick up some barbells I have at home I nearly did a face plant. The ER doctor gave me some meclizine, a bit of an antivert med. A full pill is worse than the vertigo so I break it in half which leaves it pretty much ineffective so I don't bother with it. What I don't understand is, now I only feel the vertigo slightly when I first get up and by early afternoon I'm pretty much normal...now can drive, hit the gym, bend over, etc. No more bouncing off walls and furniture but walking on the treadmill is nearly impossible unless I simply rest my hands on the side rails. Here's hoping by the time Nancy gets cleared to travel my head is screwed on straight. This time we'll probably fly down and rent a car, wonder what a Lambo goes for on a monthly basis!  Wink

My physical therapist used this Epley Maneuver to fix my vertigo. She explained how it worked which made sense. I have one of those pounding vibrator things for my back so I tried a folded up sock on the sides of my head and let the massager vibrate my head for several seconds. That works as well as the Epley on me so far.

A full pill is worse than the vertigo

I've had a couple pills that were just like that John.  Quit them too.

All I've taken in a very long time is a pill to help with sleep (half a 25Mg), and it's not a sleeping pill or sedative, or narcotic, or habit forming, with no buzz (or hangover) at all.  Only works for about 6 1/2 hours, but it's been a Godsend.

I'm no doctor, but if vertigo is worse on rising and gets better or disappears during the day, I'd be working on the WHY of that (so should a doctor).

The internet says.... Vertigo in men most commonly occurs when there's an issue with your inner ear.  Maybe set off with a night of near motionless horizontal sleeping??    Otolaryngologist

"To sleep, perchance to dream..."

I fall asleep like a rock for about 3-4 hours (especially recently - long story), but if I have to get up in the middle of the night - heaven help me. What I've found that seems to help is 900 mg of gabapentin (this is an off-label use) about 2 hours before bed - it keeps me groggy until about 8AM so I have a chance.

Scott, ask your Dr about Trazodone (a mild anti-depressive often prescribed for sleep assist).  A half little 25Mg scribed tab, so 12.5Mgs.  I've read up on published side effects and don't have a single one (going on a year now) (many have no side effects at all).  The web says, 30-60 minutes for drowsy, for me it's 5 minutes (but I take it and go right to bed).  I fall asleep quickly and stay asleep, every night.  But I must get up 2-3 times a night (6 steps to pee and back, and avoid thinking about anything at all) and return to sleep immediately.  But only 6.5-7 hrs, never 8 or more.  But good restful sleep and everything that brings with it.  With no down side of any kind.

(I have no depression, and own no stock in the company either)

EDIT:  By comparison, I years ago took the mild anti-depressive Chantix to try and help me kick tobacco.  It made me sick to my stomach every time, and made the cigarettes taste bad, but did not help me stop smoking and I flushed them down the toilet in short order.  Nothing works except dogged determination and resisting the urge to do violence to people while quitting.

Hey Valker, I've done the Epley a couple times in the past, most recent was about 30 yrs. ago with good result. I've done it a couple times in the last couple weeks and it helped, problem is I have to do it on my own without help to stabilize my noggin. Nancy is here but not really that much help in this case. About  3-4 hrs. after getting up it seems to settle down some and by early afternoon things are pretty normal. That will probably let me go to the gym during the festivities tomorrow, nothing against Trump...I just don't care to sit and watch something I've seen a number of times already. He'll get sworn in without my help.  Grin

Undecided I'm not a fan of COLD weather at all. John, I bet you'll pay closer attention next time you're at the thermastat! Safe travels to you and Nancy getting to Florida, if you were in the pan-handle starting tomorrow - Monday 20th you'd have a feeling  you were back home. It's going to be 24-28 with windchill of 15-18. Shocked We Might have 2-4 inches of snow they are saying. Schools are canceled Tuesday and Wed. Kids of course are thrilled. I hope you get over that vertigo too John. No fun for sure! Take care! coolsmiley

darn furnace clunked out in this cold crap single digits got to be 53 in house NO heat for 2nd day until got a repair tech to replace the darn circuit board.  10 year warranty on parts on 10 year 2 month furnace, guess what, outta luck 1 day AFTER the 10 year warranty on parts am outta luck.  Always something going on crappy?

Good news is recently been walking again last 2 weekends walked 2 miles last weekend and 3 miles total this weekend.  2 miles one day is my limit I think for now being only about 6 weeks out from replacing left hip.  Still not 100% Dr. said be several months more to go.   At least no bone on bone contact able to actually walk 1 mile without pain, but the strength in legs is not there since been well over 2 years now since I was able to walk 1 mile even.

Can't wait til spring to get on bicycle to gain some more leg strength ever since Oct. 8th 1st hip replaced not been on bicycle.

Some April I think will be ok to finally swing a leg over cycle seat without major pain, or so I hope!!!
