I saw a V-65 for sale. Owner states it has a second gear issue. I seem to remember that being common with them. Does anyone have knowledge of what the common issue was and how to hard of a fix it was?

My son had a Sabre back then for short time but I don't remember him having any issues but he got hooked on Ninja's until about 10 yrs. ago. Now he's a 2 Harley owner. I guess he needs a back up.  Grin
The most common issue was oil starvation due to the oil sump wasn't deep enough for rear wheel only riding.  Grin These motors ended up in flat track applications thus they would weld up deeper sumps.

I owned a V-65 Sabre. In 22K miles the cams were replaced twice under warranty. They would develop serious pitting after only 8K miles.

Honda used a forked rocker arm, so one lobe would open two valves. I read the oil flow wasn't adequate for the additional load.

Having said that, the engine was smooth and extremely powerful. Four valves gave it more top end than a Valk and it pulls very hard at any speed. Handling could have been better but I loved that engine.
