Has anyone heard/experienced anything new about their reliability? I know in recent years I believe the manufacturing of them went offshore to China or some place similar and the reliability went south. Has anyone heard anything different, are they improved over that period? With my 4 deg. T/W I can't seem to get the bike to run on regular, seems I have to have at least mid-grade even though a number of other riders don't seem to have that problem with a T/W installed. I'd like to do something prior to summer trips, seems like the Dyna might be the answer. I currently have the I/S ICM installed as well so essentially I'm running a 6 deg. up to about 4500. It scoots pretty good considering the lard ass in the saddle, I'd just like to get back to good performance and still use regular. Any thoughts?

when you run regular 87 or 89 octane, do you get little aluminum balls on your plug tips?

If you get little silver balls, yes, you are tooooo lean, and probably some ignition knock or pinging......

If not, run the cheaper stuff.......    I have a 6 deg, I/S ICM, and have run regular 89 octane for over 242,000 miles, no problem.

I had an Interstate ICM installed and decided to get the Dyna 3000 for the extra umph I was hoping to get by swapping it in.  The problem I had was extremely hard starting once the bike was warmed up.  I sent it back to Dyna and they said it tested ok but that were just problematic with some bikes and there was really no fix for it.  They refunded the full purchase price though for me.  I put my Interstate ICM back in and am going to install a 4 degree trigger wheel which should give me close to the same power with more reliability.  Just my 3 cents.

John, My experience was similiar to STEELERS. I tried several units, when they worked, they worked well and I really liked it. Just was not reliable for me, hard starting/no starting, cutting out all together when hot. I was told theres a problem on some with the connectors which can worsen when it gets hot. My rides are all day rides and as you know I live in Florida. My bike is hot and the weather is hot, just didn't work for me.
Now my buddie has three valkyrie's and runs it in all of his and has never had a single problem. He also sold a Valk with the unit in it, the new owner now has added close to 80,000 miles to the bike over the years and it's still working fine.
I went with a trigger wheel, needles and springs...very happy.
P.S.....I must add, they stand by there product and swapped out units for me free of charge, then refunded me fullly, no problems, no questions. They also stated that there are problems with the Valkyrie model. That was all I needed to hear. Why spend that kind of cash on something with an admitted problem?

I have run the Dyna 3000 for 15 months with zero problems.  I do carry the Honda ICM in the saddlebag just in case.

the last I have heard also.
I have a dyna, have had problems, they were lasting approx 2 yrs. Talking to the tech rep it was mentioned that heat is the biggest enemy of the unit, the reason the case is finned aluminum. The internals are the same as their high output race unit. So I did away with the oem rubber holder and made an almuminum bracket which attaches to the two screws on the side of the unit and then attached the bracket to the battery/storage holder. The four screws on the side of the unit are for an attachment bracket per the tech rep.

John,
If what your looking for is a bit more "UUMPH". And your trigger wheel is not an Air Lake brand, put your stock trigger wheel back on and do the "simple ECT Mod". For less than six bucks and less than an hour of your time, you could not do any better performance wise. And it works even better with the I/S ICM.

Note: you may have to use midgrade gasoline.

Today, I just received a refund for the Dyna 3000 that I had sent back for warrenty.  The unit is not manufactured anymore and the one I had was gathering dust on a dealer shelf in England.

John, if i recall you were talking last year about temp being very high with your motor, i removed the 6* trigger when i installed the Dyna, 7 years ago just because i felt it would be to hard to guess what # program would be best for my application to offset for the aftermarket trigger, i have had good luck and many miles of 10-12 hr day rides with it in the summer, only one time it dropped 2 cylinders and i made it off the hwy, unplugged and plugged back in, did a burnout and it never did it again. i would pull the trigger and put the stock back in.

...did a burnout and it never did it again...

I never knew that was part of the official diagnostic process.  I will definitely try that next time I have a problem that I can't figure out to fix.  Just do a burnout and all is well...

Maybe if I spot one somewhere and the budget can handle it at the time, I'll give it a shot. I currently am running an I/S ICM with a 4* wheel and it gives good performance and upper 30's mileage on the road....if I behave. Don't get that too often!  Grin
