Hey guys,
Just bought a cigarette likgter connection to mount on my handlebar so I can plug in my GPS & Radar Detector. I have a service manual and I can see on the wiring digram that there is a Aux connection. I can't find any other info that tells me exactly where tis is though.
I removed the right side cover and there is a connection that is not used. Does anyone know if that is it or not?
I won't run these electronics very often but was hoping to run both items at once and I assume that as long as they don't exceed the fuse rting that should be OK.
Thanks,
Rich

I think you found it. Ignore the question marks in the photo, the accessory terminal is circled. It is on with the ignition on. I do not remember the fuse rating. If you need more amps, you can always use the accessory terminal to trigger a relay.

A testing (light or buzzer) is always a good and cheap investment when contemplating anything electrical on you Valkyrie.

The accessory circuit is fused at 5 amps. The power port will take more than that. You can run power with an inline fuse to the battery to power it.

Thanks for confirming that Aux for me.
Marty,
You said that the Power Port will take more than that (5 amps). Do you mean that it is capabale of drawing more than that? I would not think that the Power Port is only going to draw as much as whatever you plug into it. i have not checked but I was thinking that bothe the GPS and Radar Detector would not be that much (of course I would check first) ???

I have a cig adapter and radar detector on my bike. I had both of them running into the acc wires under the cover and all was fine. I used a air pump, charged phones, etc without blowing the fuse. You should be fine. I then added the extra fuse block and ran all my acc to it. I think I used a 1a or 3a for my radar det. Maybe a 15a for the cig. I cant ride without my radar. In 10yrs I only been pulled over for speed once. I was jamming to my tunes and not paying attention.

I used the acc terminal circled by vanagon to power the relay that operates my aux lights. Since it goes on/off with the bike's switch I don't worry about having them stay on when the switch is off. Two wires inside the rubber cover, one is power, the other ground.

You are right the port will draw only what is pluged into it. You could install a 7.5 amp fuse without pushing the wiring. I would stop there. And do it at your own risk. You have not said what model you are working on. My IS has a SAE two round pin plug for the accessory power tap.

took another look at the photo there is no cover on the "fusable link"- if you are prowling around near it wih wire, pliers, screwdriver, etc.-be careful not to touch the hot side

That fuse link is hot on both sides. It is rated at 40 amps and protects the alternator from overload.

Seems like a lot to risk changing to a higher fuse or put up with possible blown fuses when it's very easy to put in a fuse panel and relay. Just run the relay off of the accessory line and you'll be set when you want to wire up anything else in the future.

Same fuse and same wire size. My 2KIS has a SAE two pin connector with a cap.
