Sometimes ya just gotta go...

Winter Springs, FL - Occasionally...

« on: Today at 11:32:10 AM »

Not The First Time...

"Well ain't that sumthin'?", I muttered to myself, smiling broadly and nodding.... There I sat recently at one of my hunker sites pondering and such, when out of the blue my cellular hi-tech telephonic gizmo began to jingle... Hmmm, it was Sweet Cheeks calling. Following a delightful chat, I began to consider a modest preparation or two I should probably make in anticipation of her arrival the following day...

Not uncommon, really, as she has simply popped up before from out of nowhere and arranged for a rendezvous wherever I happened to be. Although that accomplished Valk rider leads a fairly normal, close to traditional life most of the time, she also happens to harbor a pronounced gypsy-rider-streak that has to be accommodated now and then... That special 'itch' that simply must be scratched.

Since we would be meeting in southern Mississippi along the Gulf coast, we also discussed how we might entice Troutdude, Water Bug, and Brother Darrell to join us for a meal... I already had plans to meet that master Valk wrench for breakfast the following morning anyway, so I was to pitch the expanded idea to him then, and she and I could discuss it that evening after she arrived.

It was Dennis's second visit to the Waffle House in Mandeville that morning, since he'd already dined earlier with his neighbor, Jeromy. He still kept our date, though, like the dependable trooper he is, and he even took one for the team by having a slice of Pecan Pie so I wouldn't have to eat alone... What a true friend!

For this tired ol' rider it was just under 100 miles from my motel to that eatery... for Dennis the ride was about two miles... perfect! I surely drew the long straw on that deal... The ride was fabulous, too! Plenty cool but not cold, only partly cloudy with light breezes and tolerable traffic... Although LEOs were out in-force, my leisurely pace aroused no interest in them regarding us. Dang! Just right for working up a bit of an appetite, too...

Following a nice time jawing and dining with my good friend, the ride back to my temporary home was just as pleasant as the ride over had been. The LEOs were still performing due diligence enforcement duties, but again they paid no attention to us. Sweet Cheeks arrived that evening and the expanded plans were kicked around.

Dennis, Shelia, and Darrell would meet us the next evening at 'The Shed' in Gautier, MS. (pronounced 'Go-tae' - Don't ask, it's a French thing...) A nice but rather unusual BBQ place with gravel floors to set the tone for this novel experience that truly felt like being in a Shed! And that wasn't all...

As I was parking our girl, Brother Darrell stepped out from behind a parked van next to his parking place a few slots down from our spot and then he was followed by Mitch! Dang, I had no idea he was even south of Tennessee at the time, so this would definitely qualify as yet another 'Ninja' visit by him... Dennis had also brought along a couple of their riding friends... Jerry & Jean.

The group was seated and socializing ratcheted-up a notch...

Pearls of wisdom appearing randomly on the 'Shed' walls and one of our group...

We later scattered like a covey of quail, but Dennis, Mitch and Jeromy returned to join Janice and this writer at our hunker spot for breakfast the following morning. Mitch then continued with Janice and me for a catfish and slumber stop in Monroeville, AL, that evening. This 'SOLO' riding adventure of mine on occasion sure has turned out to be quite a bit different than anything I'd ever imagined it might be!

Bruce, What a fine group of Valkyrie friends that you keep motiveated on meeting up. And the efforts of die-hard friends finding the time to make it happen. My hats off to all those that made it happen and hope  that one day I can join in as I'm retiring in March! Great post and message any time friends gather. smitten
