I came up I-75 north yesterday out of Georgia into Tennessee . I saw at least 50 trailers haulin' motorcycles  in the 175 miles I traveled all headed southbound toward Florida. I did see ( 1 ) Harley ( 1 ) Goldwing and a couple Harley clones going south with someone actually ridin' them.... Trailer Week  Undecided

Now that's funny! I have friends that have Harley's and Steve and I use to tease them all the time. A big ride for them was a 100 miles round trip so they never rode with us.

Thats the way it is with most rallies. I've seen alot in Sturgis that trailer and they have SD plates!  ??? But this time of year is a 'good' reason to up here. Its in the upper teens this morning and only getting lower 20's today. Thats one Osni ride! So its understandable. Even we would do it. Thats why we have never had intrest in going.

I'm with Chrome. Not all of us live in an area that doesn't have snow. It would be difficult to even get the bike out of the garage right now, or safe. I have thought about trailering it to VA or NC, leaving the trailer there and riding the rest of the way.

I'm about 15 miles off I-75 just north of Knoxville , Tennessee . If you need a safe place to park your truck and trailer I have plenty of room. I've lived here all my life we lost the key's to the house doors long ago so we don't even lock the doors anymore and I've never had anything stolen .

Other side of the spectrum here. When its 120 in Phoenix and I have to ride through that, She's sad behind the pick-up. 100 miles in 120 will flatten you in short order. Short hops are tolerable with a wet overshirt but here ,thats dry in 15 miles. I have a patch on my vest that says ,

I trailered my bike to Colorado last summer and left my truck and trailer at a good friends house while Carolina Girl and I enjoyed 10 of the best days we've ever spent on a motorcycle.
My only regret is having a V-6 and and not a V-8 to pull it with.  coolsmiley

Hey Joseph:

Used to ride to Florida when I was in California for Bike Week.    There was 9 of us CHiPS who went together.   Only trailer was on the Captain's bike hauling every ones stuff.

Retired, moved back here..

Bike Week rolled around and my son asked if we were going.  Told him yes.

He got his bike and mine all serviced at his shop and we took off.   Great weather, it was above freezing.

Made it, did our thing for a week and headed home.    About Chattanooga we run into rain.    Doned our suits and kept hitting the trail.    Stopped for a night, and left out the next morning in rain.   It pounded us to Peria, IL.    I said to 4377 with it, let's get a room.   We did, and the next morning woke up to 13" snow on the ground.

Now, my brother, how the 4377 do you ride in that?    We were there 2 days.   They got the road cleared late evening of the 2nd day and we headed out in the moonlight.      Swore up and down I'd never do that again.    So rant on all the trailers if you so desire.   I just wanted to let you know there are other sides to your riding, and being able to ride.   Yeah, I've ridden in snow, and I never went down in it.   I've ridden in my share of rain and never went down.    Only real accident I ever had was in a chase, they tossed oil out of the back door of a van into the intersection we were turning in.    Black & White got them about 3 blocks later........

Yea, me too. We pulled ours (two valks,st11,two gw's with trailers)to Denver Co. last yr. so we could have more time to ride up into Canada. For the last 5 yrs. we have done the same thing. Unless u got all summer to ride, just makes better since to pull to a good jump off place, then ride like u stoleum.
I just wanted to see how thick the skin was on my brothers in Canada. I can understand Joe's point,he drags trailers all over the country all week long, most folks don't. So, bottom line, drag it,push it,ship it,throw it,mail it,haul it,what ever it takes and when u get to a good place....ride dat sumbitch.

I know that feeling... I did Seattle/Montrose CO in a day and a half, in July of '02.  I did Seattle/Snowville UT in one day... and most of that day was 120F+.  I stopped for a salad in Twin Falls ID and was watching the reader board as the power went out at 122F.  I don't know how hot it got that day.  I've NEVER had to ENDURE such a day of riding.  I got a room at 2100hrs that night... and as I was leaving the next morning at 0500hrs... it was still 85F out.  I made Montrose by lunch time.

I'm like RJ, rode down one year from central IL. and got caught in a blizzard around Peoria, never a gain, I have no problem trailoring to ride if the wether is crappy (more my wifes idea than mine) But I know what Joe is talking about, Went to sturgis and every pick-up with a bike in the back had SD plates on it.

First I was'nt making a joke as Adrian seemed to think . Second I was'nt ranting either ...Just a observation I saw yesterday while doing what I do for a living ( rollin' down the highway ) . I saw 4 motorcycles all day with riders headin' southbound toward Florida ...I saw better than 50 trailers some with 4 to 6 bikes on the trailers heading southbound. Just a observation RJ  cooldude

Smokin Joe is right.

Trailer, Trailer , Trailer, every now and again a Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, BMW,

and a few Harley Riders who spent so much on chrome they could not afford a trailer.

I had a blast ,blasting by these trailer people, revving up the loud pipes on the Glide and blowing the horn.

Sometimes they would give me the finger, sometimes they would wave, was not worried, I was the

most heavily armed biker in the crew going south to Daytona.

I have got to figure out how to mount a shotgun to the side of the bike, that would get some real looks.

That was the most fun I had onthe whole trip. Messing wiht the trailer people. Evil cooldude Grin Smiley

These trailers had tags on them that I was passing and most of those trailers that day were form the South Eastern United States.

Going to FLA>

All others are excused form my previous remarks.

Thanks

Cool story about your Dad.

Those were some of the Greatest Men our country had, freed millions from opression and slavery.

Truly a great generation.

We could learn a thing or two from them, oops talking about history we have forgotten about.

Our Supreme leader needs to visit those Stone Gardens a few times that are all over Europe and quit apologizing for our

Heroic Men and Women.

The rest of this world is not worthy of even holding onto the coat tails of our brave men and women

fighting for the United States at this very moment.

I like to drive almost as much as I like to ride.  Rule of thumb: If I'm going to a bike thing, and the missus wants to go, we trailer.  If she don't wanna go, I ride.  It's as simple as that.  Hoser

One year when I went to Holester Ca with marty rood, the town actually made temporary parking lots so those who trailered their bikes.  What was real funny was I watched the transformation from shorts and flip flops to black T-shirt, leathers to include the rider reaching down to the ground and grabbing dirt and rubbing on himself and rider to look like they had traveled more than the 2 miles to the ride in.

OBTW, Marty, Intersate Don, and I had spent three days riding all over California before reaching the ride in.  I think we did over 1,000 miles without ever leaving the State of California.

To each his own.

I try to keep my mouth shut about trailering because I don't know the circumstances.

Nowadays, since the Valk is gone, I ride the Nighthawk.  It is not good for more than 100 miles or so for me.  Probably many younger than me could get 500 miles days with it.

I might ride at Inzane.  It's only 350 miles or so from here.  However, I might trailer and if I do, I don't give a rap what riders think.  cooldude  Sooner or later age catches up with all of us.  We do what we have to do to ride.

We helped the Russians when they were conveniant to use against Hitler.

Stalin was a mass murderer and we let a lot of people slide underneath his regime.

Or sold those people out to squeeze Hilter as much we could get them to.

Then when ole Patton and The Russian commanders met that was the start of the cold war.

Patton wanted to whip their axxes back to where they came from but ole Eisenhower told him no.

Bad mistake and your right we sold a lot of people out in Eastern Europe to stay friends wiht the Russians.

And the old Harley's were sent to help them defeat a common enenmy. I believe Indian sent some too.But not sure about that one.

There was no common enemy till Roosevelt set us up to enter the war by allowing Hawaii to be bombed.  It was all economics, he decided it to aid the socialists rather than the National Socialists.  The selling of motorcycles was just part of his plan to end the Great Depression with a war time economy. Socialist measures like the draft and income tax are legacies of those days.

It's estimated that, world wide, over 100 million people have been victims of Communism. Reckon why we dwell on Hitler?

I rode over yesterday (Sunday). About 48 when I left and 60 on the way home. I did see alot of bikes on trailers on the way over, most of them headed away from Daytona. I was suprised how few bikes were there, not sure if it was the cold or the economy but it sure seemed like the numbers were way down.  I actually cruised out to the Iron Horse without any traffic. Must be Obama's fault or depending on how you look at it his good work. (just kidding) !!

I sent my trailer to the shop over the weekend for minor tie-down mods (I can't weld aluminum yet) so's I can be ready to trailer to Sturgis this year.   When I reach the campground and unload, I will get on the bike IN MY SHORTS, TANK TOP, and SANDALS, then ride off to see the sites.   I may even don a helmet IF it looks like rain.  When I get there, I'm ready to ride.  When I ride, I ride comfortably.   If I fall down without kevlar and go bump, my bad.   uglystupid2  coolsmiley 2funny

I will not, under any circumstances, rub dirt on or about my body to look like a real biker.  Nor will I deliberately smash any bugs on my face in an effort to resemble the nuts with buttaches that really rode halfway cross country to get there.    crazy2   Roll Eyes

I do love to ride - just not so much for the long, monotenous highway miles.

My two cents.   (Probably not worth half that.)

I rode to Strugis From Central Florida a couple of years back, a little over 1900 miles each way. I was proud as heck when I got there and even earned some adult beverages from strangers who thought it was a big deal. My butt did hurt, and my lips were chapped, my forehead burnt and both the bike and I had many ground in bugs and lbs dirt on us.

My female friend flew to Rapid City, enjoyed cocktails on the plane and during her lay over in Detroit. She had no burnt flesh or bugs and her lips were not chapped. When I met her at the airport she said what the he__ happened to you? I ride w/o a windshiels and the temps were high 90's most of the way.

With all that said I am planning on doing it again, hopefully on the way back from Alaska. (got to love the summer break we teachers get). I don't consider myself a biker but I do enjoy riding and anyone who has done this knows as you get closer to Strugis you start to meet many others on bikes, I have many stories about the ride that I love to tell about each of the nights I stayed, on the way out and back, some funny, some not so funny.

The good thing about riding is it is a personal choice, so take the trailer, take the bike, heck you can catch a plane and rent a bike at most large rallies. The important thing is that you go if you want to or don't if you don't want to..
