We've discussed the small portable batteries capable of charging your phone and jump starting your car or bike here a few times, I always travel with one. It seems they've added a new capability to the mix - air compressor...

Just took delivery of one of these, will kick the tires, inflate the tires and if it passes inspection will replace a few things on my bike for trips.

Anyone else tried one of these?

This is the one I went with. Lot of capability for under $50 currently...

That clamp type has failed on my on other compressors so I like the ones you have to
actually screw on the valve stem now

Mine just is for air, not jump starting

Nice price point though

And I used mine today as I had gotten a nail in my rear tire. Got me from Yankee Stadium (actually parked right in front of it on River Ave to my mechanic near my office)  It took more than 5 minutes to go from 16 to 33 lbs pressure

Cool!   cooldude
I recently bought one similar to keep in the truck (tire psi fluctuates in cold weather, causing
TPS Driver info alerts )
Past experiences is: small compressors get hot & fail…
Screw on type hose lose a few psi when un-screwing…

Will it work on a completely dead battery? A few years ago at the DRU I left my key on overnight, no problem, took out my jump starter and... nothing. Rainman had one also but same thing. Apparently some require a small amount of power to activate. Project Farm has a few good videos on various brands.
I am considering a Gooloo 4000, available at Walmart in Canada.

I had this issue with my dad's car just last week... Even my plug in charger wouldn't recognize the battery.

I disconnected the positive terminal from the battery and then it would charge the battery. Was very odd...

My first long motorcycle trip was in 1977. I rode 5,300 miles on my nearly new KZ-900. I went from Colorado to New Jersey, returning through New York, Ontario, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. Along the way I had flat tires and a dead battery. But I was never stranded.

In upstate NY I had to replace a poorly wearing front tire in the parking lot of a motorcycle shop. Later that day I got a rear flat just outside of Lake Placid. Those were the days of tube tires, so I carried spare tubes and a few patches inside the fairing. Those Vetter Windjammer fairings had enormous storage space inside.

To inflate both tires I used a 'spark plug inflator'. These consisted of a hose with a fitting for your valve stem on one end, and an air intake and pump on the other. You threaded the pump into a spark plug hole and ran the engine at idle. A diaphragm and one-way valve made sure you inflated the tire with fresh air, not fuel. It worked very well and inflated a tire in a minute or so. The device is shown below, and still sits in my garage.

In Michigan one morning my battery was dead. Upon inspection I found it to be completely dry. I filled it with water to no avail, and later discovered a bad diode on the rectifier board that overcharged it.

But that didn't interrupt my trip. Some of those early bikes with electric start also had a kick starter, partly because traditional bikers didn't trust that new tech stuff. So I continued my trip through Upper MI, WI, MN, and NE using the kick starter. The bike ran just fine.

I used to carry a Rugged Geek complete with air pump in my saddlebag.  But then one day I found it had swollen up and split it's case.  It no longer resides anywhere near my bike.

I use the NOCO brand jump starter, I think GB40 size. It has a button you press when the battery is to low to recognize. It came in handy when I left my plow drop switch on and it would completly drain the battery before the next snow. I usuall get multiple jumps before needing recharged although I recomend charging it every month or two. I had one to low to jump a car once, of course we were in the middle of a cold spell of negative tempertures at the time.

Looking forward to a followup review after you've had some usage.

I've been carrying the following two devices for about 3 years now and they've both been great for car and bike but anything to save some space is always a good thing.

Got to use it today for the first time...

My John Deere riding mower only lasted 17 years. Probably fixable but I got tired of tinkering with it so found a deal on a new one.

It'd been sitting a bit and the battery was dead.

My plug in charger/jump starter wouldn't charge it, wouldn't accept that there was a battery there (The "Battery too low" problem mentioned earlier.)

Got the new portable one this thread is about, hooked it up, no problem it jumped it without any complaints.

I quickly got into some tall leaves and it stalled the engine, hadn't run enough to charge the battery on the mower so I had to jump it again, no problem.

After jumping a riding lawn mower twice the portable battery went from 100% to 97% so... so far I'm happy with it.

cooldude I like that Serk as I just have the charge blaster with everything but the compressor. Having the air compressor available is handy too. Only $50 sounds inexpensive. Curious to see if it last.  coolsmiley

Picked up this one to jump start anything, dead battery or not. Highly reviewed. 10,000amps. Versatile, and will jump several trucks with one charge. Charges other devices.  User friendly. No compressor, just a strong power source. I carry a separate 12v compressor. Not cheap. I believe you get what you pay for. So I avoid Chinese stuff from Harbor Freight and Wal-Mart, except for manual tools - buy quality.  I should acknowledge, China CAN make good products if contracted to - Iphones are made in China, for example.
This starter pack is made there. If the priority is low cost like products for WM and HF - well grampa used to say "The oats ARE cheaper after they've been through the horse."

Just an FYI.  If a dead battery will not accept a charge , Temporary excite it with another battery. Positive to positive - negative to negative. Put charger on normally on low setting. Use a battery with some charge to momentarily excite the battery to (show which way the polarity is)  get it to charge.
