Dual pin halogen base - with spring clips

Yes, there are a lot of places to get the dual pin halogen base BUT...  not like the one Dave (aka: Valkpilot) gave me at the last wrench party.
It has spring clips that hold the bulb solidly and high temp wires coming from the base.

You say, "Why in the world would you want such a thing?"

Well,  halogen bulbs are the norm for accessory driving lights on most of the Valks (including mine) that I've seen and the weakest part of that system is the tiny porcelain base.
All of the heat and vibration will eventially take its toll and will either create an intermittent outage or go out completely.

The base that Dave gave me looks like long term solution.  Therefore, I'm going to get a couple more.  One to change the other side and one to return to Dave...  (might get 3 so's I can have an extra for the next unsuspecting soul).

BUT FIRST, I have to find a source.  Dave couldn't remember where he got them and I've been combing the internet with very little luck.  Seen some that were close but no cigar.

Help!

Valkpilot

Tom,

I got them at www.harringtonlights.com and the PN on my invoice is B3-3996-16.  They were $5.66 each plus shipping.

Ah yes!  The old "discontinued" syndrome.  It seems to crop up everytime I find something cool.

Been there.  Checked it out.  Discontinued.

I'll continue my quest.

Thanks anyway Dave.

I think this one will work.  In fact, it's better because we don't have to remove the lamp adaptor and find teeny, tiny little nuts to make it work.  I don't think it was available when I ordered the others.

The problem is all that vibration from 6 cylinders.  That's why HD only uses 2 cylinders on its bikes - to keep down the vibration.   ;D

The bulbs have not been discontinued.  They're MR16 halogens that are widely used and available many places.

I found some sockets with high-temp leads and a retaining clip, which most driving lights DON'T have even though they use the bulbs.  I gave one to Tom to repair his socket that had burned up.

When he looked for some more sockets to buy, the particular configuration I bought was discontined, but I found a better configuration still available.

And now between the two of us, we've got six sockets with high-temp leads and retaining clips, so all is good! :cooldude:

Looking for a real upgrade that will last longer than you will own your Valk?

Read all about it. Brighter, choose your color temp, and they will outlast us all...

Hey Jeff,  I just recently got my tire situation figured out.  Don't confuse me with new fangled lighting...

Yep, Tom has gone from the dark side to the green side.  It's hell when you have a blow out in one of the Air Jordans, though.
