Looking to trailer some things behind the bike and was considering "building" one of my own as I wasn't happy with the sizes I was finding and the prices were very high (in my opinion). Does anyone have a good source for trailer parts and accessories?

Hey G I built mine a couple of years ago.Got the trailer from Habour Freight. Have about 500 into it including hitch and converter .Picked up a used topper and hitch to keep the costs down. Harbor Freight is selling a complete trailer kit now for $499 on sale now for $429 I think IMHO very similiar to the Piggybacker

you can have the sears xcargo top that is under my deck
just attach it to the harbor freight bottom and you are done
if you can get 12" wheels go for it bigger is more better

 Even "blinged" out with the diamond plate and chrome, I was still in for less than a grand. For a simple setup, you can do it for about $300 if you shop (not including a hitch). Craigslist can be your friend, especially for a car-top cargo carrier. I see them semi-local for $50 all the time. Bought a Matrix Rover professionally built one Friday afternoon... it was too good of a deal to pass up. If you keep an eye on Craiglist and are willing to travel to get one, you can find some decent deals there also, on a comercially made one. I found the Matrix Rover, a showroom model with all the options for $1200 under list. I got it $500 cheaper than dealer price! I guess what I am trying to say is that there are deals out there...   |

sell mine for 650.00 has led lights. cooler rack use many times .. streched tounge i have pulled it 115 mph loaded with 500 lbs in it ..

I bought a trailer kit from northern tool on sale for $150. I grabbed some mild weld steel from tractor supplys scrap metal bin to build my hitch. I think it was $15. You can go to a steel supply and get the stuff for 1/2 that cost. I bought the 1" reciever tube for $20 at tractor supply. The tool box was $179 (i think). The expandable metal was $25 at a local trailer store. I bought some heavy duty hooks from tractor supply also. I think they were $10. I have about $400 in the whole thing including hitch. I know it's not the best looking thing going down the road but it serves the purpose. I have at least 15,000 miles on it and hauled over 200 pounds with it a couple times. No problems.  |

The Harbor Freight ad I saw indicated that the maximum speed for the trailer is 55mph. I would assume that is a tire/bearing limit. Joe |

Hey Joe. Those chrome rims and tyres come from Habour Freight but only online when I got them and are now disco. Yes ,I saw the 55 limit on them but the trailer was rated for over 1,000 lbs and I am lucky to have 200 on it.May have something to also do with COA (Covering Ones Ass) and other legal stuff. I have had the trailer over 90 MPH and no problems. I even checked the rims to see if they were heating up. No heat at all. I did re pack the bearings with good grease after I built it. Over all,very happy . I built this as a "Starter" unit to see if I liked trailering but it has worked out so well, its a keeper now. I hope I haven't upset any of the "Anti-trailer" folks here. I had my little 8" tires at 100 mph once and 75-85 all day long in the hot sun. I think those things are made to handle anything the valkyrie dish's out. Don't expect to get no more than 22 mpg running like that.lol.. It gets over 30mpg on the back roads... just an FYI

You could always go with a hitch rack also. No decrease in the mpg compaired to the trailer. Used this one for 3k miles last year and loved it. Got it at al motorcycle acc. $45  |
