well I did it.. made my transformation to the dark side.. I got the tire installed yesterday and after getting all the parts and pieces of my IS back on I realized after a test ride or 2 that I had issues... No big deal.. When I rode the first time it felt spongy at 35 PSI so I upped it to 40 PSI It rode alot better. I did smell a tad bit of burning rubber.. noticed that the nut on the bolt that I had removed the nut cage on the right side was close and with my weight on the bike it conatcted the tire.. I plan on trying to adjust the shocks a little stiffer and work the bolt to where it doesnt stick out so far. My shocks are set on 2 and I think i need to set them up to 4 or maybe 6. If anyone has any ideas if that would help orhow the best way to adjust them, it would be greatly appreciated.. I weigh around 225 and I ride 2 up when I can find a back seat so the added weight might cause problems unless I can stiffen up the shocks. Let me know what you think. I also was planning on getting the fron tire mounted but the guy that mounted my rear tire primarily works on dirt bikes and wasnt that comfortable jacking the bike uo under the motor. I think I am going to get a MC jack and looked on the site for a solution and think I found a couple but again, any helpful tips would be appreciated.. Steve

What did you get mounted Steve? I'm going to the darkside this friday if the tire comes in. I'm getting a Yokohama AVID ENVigor 205/60R/16 92V. Have a local shop in Tomball going to mount it. I will do the nut cage and will see what suggestions are offered for your fix.

I looked at alot of tires on the tirerack that has been mentioned on the board. I was looking at Bridgestones Turanza EL400-02. Had a wing with us 2 weeks ago running it. I like the way it was handling when I was following him 2-up. Surveys on the rack didn't favor the tire. The Yoko one I picked is a new one. The specs were similar to the Goodyear Assurance TT and I liked the looks of the tread better on the Yoko. Allen hooked me up with dyna beads. Can't wait to get-r-done and try this darkside world out.

I like to stay with the softer compound tires as I think they stick a little better than the longer wearing tires. I really liked the Zeon2 that I ran but they only come in a 55 series. The softer tires probably don't last as long but I got 24k out of the zeon.

I have Yokohamas on it now and they are superb. But on the Valkyrie, I have the Assurance TT, 25Kmiles and still looking good, with great grip and ride. RainMaker

I put a general altimax on it. I also stiffend up the shocks a bit and rode it two up for a couple of hours yesterday. It rode awesome. I dont know if it was the tire or the stiffer suspension but I felt more comfortable on it than I have on the MC tire... I will be riding it on saturday for the dublin parade so it will be a good test on the country roads... Cant wait.

Interesting choice.. the Yokohama - http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Yokohama&tireModel=AVID+TRZ&partnum=065TR6TRZI'm wondering about the stiffness of the sidewall. I was told (when I got my Triple Tread) that the sidewall was very important because of the cornering characteristics of a bike and the pressure thats put on the side walls that cars never see. I've got over 25k on my Triple Tread and have had no problems whatsoever but I'll be watching the board and accumulating info so I'll be prepared when its time to do my replacement. Tom

Hey Serk, isn't a parsec a measure of distance not time???
Correct... It was in reference to the fact that Han Solo was able to take a shorter route for the Kessel Run, and I was using it in reference to the fact that I was able to take a shorter route by being able to ride over the horrible grooved area on 635 instead of having to take an alternate, and less efficient route... Straight from the Wookieepedia (Seriously, that's what it's called): Han Solo claimed that his Millennium Falcon "made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs". A parsec was a unit of distance, not time. Solo was not referring directly to his ship's speed when he made this claim. Instead, he was referring to the shorter route he was able to travel by skirting the nearby Maw black hole cluster, thus making the run in under the standard distance. By moving closer to the black holes, Solo managed to cut the distance down to about 11.5 parsecs. The smuggler, BoShek, actually beat Solo's record in his ship, Infinity, but without cargo to weigh him down.
A few months later, Han Solo beat both his own and BoShek's records in a run he made with Luke Skywalker. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Kessel_Run(And no, the thing about geeks in my signature is NOT just a witty saying... )

Thinking of adding a computer to the Valk how geek is that. Just need to write a program for Linux add charts and an aircard Small 7 inch touchscreen. A friend of mine that had developed a TAN for his truck (Truck Area Network) was gonna build out a BAN for my Valk, but we never got around to it... My main geekiness is directed to my aquarium though. I have a Linux server (Technically, it's a VM on my home VMWare ESX farm) that controls the aquarium, monitors parameters and adjusts things as necessary. The above graphic is live (To within 60 seconds) of the parameters of my aquarium... And yeah, I know, gotten way off topic of Dark Side tires, but hey, I started the thread, so.....
