Hello,

I have the OEM I/S fuel sender unit, bought new, and getting ready to install it.  Is there any cover for the wires (red and black) and rheostat(??) ?  Seems a lot is exposed to the fuel in the tank, i.e. cause a spark.

I didn't see one on the parts fiche but thought I'd ask to make sure.

Also, can I get the male side for this (fuel sender) connector at Radio Shack?  Anything special about it? e.g. current rating?

Thanks,

No, it goes in just as you show it in the picture...naked, except it needs a gasket between the mounting plate and the tank, kinda like a big O-ring as I recall. And, when installed be sure the wire loom is coming out and pointing to the rear of the tank. It will sometimes test your religion to get it in that position, but that's how it goes in. As for the connector available at Radio Shack....maybe/maybe not. If not, just pick up a complete set with the male/female included and just rewire it. Since you're asking about the other half of the connector, I assume you're not installing it on an I/S.

Hi John,

Thanks for the info.  I saw those solder joints and thought of short circuit, in gas!!!

Sorry, I left out the part about putting an I/S tank on a Standard.  Also, I did buy the O-ring along with the unit.

Thanks again!
