I realize the manual pingel petcock I just installed has a smaller reserve than the stock petcock, I just filled up with 4.5 gallons with my tourer, and I hadn't reached reserve yet with the pingel.  Was I close, I hope? I usually get gas around 150 miles on a tank.  thanx if you know how much reserve it has.  Hoser

You should be close. I usually hit resv around 150ish, depending on riding style. I think my resv is around 20 miles or so. Pulling trailer, 2-up its 8 mile resv.  :-X I normally get 32 mpg on my 98 Tourer.

I found my reserve milage was cut in half-ish. I stop for fuel @ 150 miles on the clock, good rule of thumb for me. If I do hit reserve, I make sure I stop at the nearest fuel stop. Won't play games like I used to, too heavy for pushing :cooldude:
If you can't be a good example: be a WARNING!!

Sounds about right that would be around a half gallon, I can live with that, just takes some planning ahead.  Thanx, Fudgie. Thanx Tundra  :cooldude: hoser

This is what I was told by other Pingel users when I bought mine.

People are more passionately opposed to wearing fur than leather because it's safer to harass rich women than bikers.

Don't want to hijack this thread, Junior, did you use your stock seat on your tourer when you installed the I/S tank? I would like to install an I/S tank on my 2k Tourer and was wandering about that. Also I seem to be getting less miles per gallon on the tourer, than on the 99 I/S. Hit reserve at about 143 miles.

If you are riding  and it is a must that you keep your eyes on the road, you are riding too fast.

Stock seat worked perfectly when I added I'State tank to mine.
I ride a motorcycle because nothing transports me as quickly from where I am to who I am.

Thanks, didn't want to make a bunch of changes to get one on, have an extra I/S seat, but the back clip doesn't end up in the right place. Besides, I like the tourer seat better than the I/S seat.

I can tell ya that the Ultimate seat for a standard or a tourer will "Not", fit when an Interstate tank is installed. I was lucky because I had just bought my Ultimate seats around a month before I went to an IS tank. Des at Ultimate offered to do and exchange for me as long as my seat was in perfect shape, which it was. It all worked out perfectly. I love having the extra fuel capacity along with a real Gas Gauge (Moto Sen Gauges).  :cooldude:

And,, I also have a Pingel non-vacuum installed.  :)

Can the motosen gauge be tapped into a standard tank?

I had a fairly new Big Boy Ultimate when I got my I/S tank and wasn't about to spend more for a replacement. I put the seat on with the tank, but had to press down on the front a bit to get it locked in. I then used some soap to mark on the tank where the nose contacted it, then applied some black automotive deco tape in that area. Kept the seat from rubbing the paint and you couldn't see it. As for fit, after the first couple times of riding, the seat locked right into place. That nose is quite flexible and will push up a bit when pressed against an I/S tank. It will wrinkle the leather a bit but not enough to bother, and it's less expensive than buying a replacement. I used it like that for about three years until I replaced it with a seat made for the I/S.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The gauge won't do you any good if you don't have a sending unit in the tank like the I/S tank has.

What John said. Only the IS tank has the access plate/area to accept the sending unit for the fuel gauge.

That's interesting and great information for others who might have Ultimate seats on a standard or tourer and are considering installing an IS tank!  :cooldude:
