Greetings fellow Valkoholics! My name is Jim, living in the great state of Tennessee, and I go by "JimL". Like most of you guys I started riding when I was in my teens. Like most teens I was stupid, fearless and immortal (stupid being the biggest ingredient)! Fortunate for me, I realized that unlike the "Highlander", I was not immortal at the early age of 16 when I nearly totaled my brothers bike while balancing a case of beer I had just gotten from the bootlegger (it was dry in eastern KY during those days)! I quit riding after that mishap on my brothers bike and the realization that....yes....it is possible to get killed on these things.
Fast forward my brothers and sisters drew straws to see who went to college, I lost and had to go (I am joking...sort of). Anyway I ended up working for one of Honda's competition (Nissan Corporation). I was always interested in what vehicles Honda produced, but early in this decade I finally could not ignore that flat-6 boxer Honda had installed on the Valkyrie. I kept reminding myself for 6 more years of that mishap on my brothers bike when I was 16 years of age....but the argument with myself had actually been lost probably the second time I saw one at the dealer. I broke down and bought a used one in 2005 and have never regretted it.
I had the foresight to teach my son at an eary age to ride responsibly, and never trust that the guy in the car is paying attention to what he is doing! I bought him a 750 Aero when he was 15, and that is what he learned on. After him sneaking my Valk out numerous times when I was on travel; I figured it was time I sold the Aero and get another Valk....clearly my son was hooked.
This is a great site. I enjoy reading the articles and look forward to seeing you guys on the road!
