is the dump truck driver still alive? if so why?

i really shouldnt have said that but makes me wonder why he did it...
truck drivers used to be the safest drivers on the road,, then came the CB but that wasnt much of a problem then came the cell phones and a license to drive a truck to anyone who could start one and make it move,,,,

Few news articles I was able to quickly Google up:

Quote
The 50-year-old driver of the truck was not injured and is being questioned by police.

"Salomon told The Associated Press the accident happened when the riders got too close to the big rig."

So, it was the riders fault.  They should have stayed farther away?

Then, later in the story, it says all the motorcycles were stopped at a light, and the truck ran into them, and over them!!

Yet,  "THEY WERE TOO CLOSE TO THE TRUCK"!  Why does this sound so backwards?!

50 years old?  Could'a been a heart attack, seizure or something....just sayin'.  If it wasn't and he at fault, string 'em up by the nads.

Horrible accident.  If it was, in fact, the bikes parked at a light...then it reinforces my habit of keeping an escape route and watching the rear view mirrors.  Not saying that would have saved my butt in this situation, because there may have been other bikes in front of me.  So...it reinforces my other dislike, riding in large groups.

Motorcycles were stopped at traffic light.  Dump truck rear ended the lot of them... 8 motorcycles, as well as the small SUV in front of the motorcycles at the light.

Un-freaking-believeable!

One of the seriously injured was a Phoenix Fire captain.

The road is still closed while they investigate.

I hate to hear any rider going down, much worse has obviously happened in this accident.

We place our bets and take our chances and at any time it could be you or me.

These people did not wake up that morning and think, it is my last day.

But prayer is a good thing to do for all, even the guy feeding his family driving a Dump Truck.

The world does not make sense at any time unless,,,,,,,you know there is a time and a place

under the Sun for all to happen.

I am happier on  a motorcycle in the time I have to ride , than at any other time, so I keep riding and waving at all those that share this passion.

God Bless these families in thier hour of need and give them peace.

Only you Lord ,,, make the world a bearable place for me..

The truck was owned by a company named "Blue Sky". Never heard of them. Driver was spoken to by a woman on scene. She said he mentioned going through some papers when it happened. A female friend of mine is a Psychotherapist. She rides with this group (PT Cruisers) and spends Christmas with them. She was to be on the ride today, but her coworker called in sick. She had to cover her patients. She's a wreck as all these people are good friends.

Condolences and prayers to the riders and their families.  The truck driver obviously was not paying any attention to his driving.  Even if it was cagers and not bikers, there would have more than likely still been serious injuries if not death resulting from his negligence.  That is one of my great fears when riding is to be trapped like that with a vehicle/truck bearing down on me.
