Hi everyone , new member from Ontario , Canada .  I have decided that a Valkyrie is in my immediate future .  I already own a few Hondas and considered a then-new F6 back in 03 when I bought my Shadow ACE (which I still have) , but just couldn't afford the $17,000C price .  Now , even though the Rocket III is tempting , I've decided to try to find a clean Valk to feel the turbine smoothness and Porsche sound which intoxicate so many fans .  The search begins ... crazy2

Don't know what your looking for exactly but would be hard to find a newer one and the price isn't bad. No connection to seller, ect....   Best of luck on your search.

It was only a matter of time.  Same thing happened to me in 2001.  I was in the dealership picking up my ACE when I spied the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.  I tried to convince myself that it was too much bike for me but for the next 2 years all I could think about was that thing of beauty.  Bought my 2003 in August in NYC.  They had to get it from a warehouse in Illinoise.  I believe I may have bought one of the very last ones sold on the east coast.  I'm very happy and feel very lucky to have gotten in on one so late in the production of these amazing machines.

Welcome!! Yeah, the R3 is a nice ride, lots of go-power, but it
ain't a Valk. When I totalled my 03 I never really considered
anything but another Valk!! cooldude

If you like variety, don’t buy a valk.  Reason is, you’ll never want to ride anything else.

I’ve had mine for only two years.  The power is intoxicating, and the ride in exhilarating.  Many people say it’s just like a goldwing, not even close.  Words really can’t explain this bike.  I can not for the life of me understand why Honda doesn’t make ‘em anymore.

I bought my first Valk in June of 2001.  When I saw one at the dealer it took about 5 minutes for me to decide, big, black, powerful and good looking.  I have to have one!  But like others with limited budget the $13,900.00 was not a possiblity.  The salesman said hey I can made you deal on one I have in theback if you don't care what color it is, I could let you have it for $10,000.00  So I asked, what color is it?  He said is Yellow & Cream.  I said no way not yellow!   But we walked back into the back of the shop.  It was a 1999 still in the crate.  I said no I'm realy not interested in yellow.  He said you come back tomorrow and I'll have it out and cleaned up, come back and take a look.  On my way home I kept thinking yellow man I don't like yellow.  So the next day at lunch I drove over to look at it.  I rode it home that afternoon.  I had never been on one but from the second I pushed the starter button I was hooked!  I road it 2 years put close to 30,000 miles on it.  My wife and I decided we needed to move, you know put the kids in a better place to grow up.  We moved to the country theroad was gravel.  I have put a couple thousand in chrome on it over that time and decided I would not destroy it riding on gravel so we sold it.  I could not go any where with out looking at every bike that was in eye sight. I allways stayed up on what was going on with the VRCC group.  In 07 I was looking at Craigslist and found another 1999 Yellow & Cream Valk.  I told my wife hey check this out it's just like the one we had, same year same color and most of the same add ons.  I called they guy and talked to him for about 2 hours. The next week I bought a one way ticket flew out to Ca. and rode it home .  That was 20,000 miles ago.  I will keep this one until their is nothing left to fix.  Most Valk riders feel the same way.

Great decision!  Late year, I was trying to make the same decision - - Rocket III or Valk.  Went to the Triumph dealership to check out the RIII and liked what I saw.  Then did some more research on the RIII and found an UK site with RIII owners discussing the various issues of their bikes.  I read way too many posts of owners with problems of power surges or the engines dying with no remedies from the dealers.  So instead of selling my FJR1300a to buy a RIII, I decided to keep the FJR and buy a Valk.  Very happy with my decision.

Good luck in your quest!

Thanks for the welcome and the replies .  The AL Valk in the ad above seems perfect (!!) but I think I'll initially try to find one here in my province in order to avoid any import problems and costs .  Curiously there are quite a few new 05 Runes left at dealers here but even with a big discount the prices are prohibitive ; besides , I like the rawness of the older Valk better .  I'm going to take my time to find a really nice , low KM example b/c I plan on keeping it .  As mentioned , I have other bikes , the ACE and a 2005 RC51 (among others) , so I won't be w/o a ride during the search .  Can't wait to find one .  Yes , I am indeed tempted to just talk a deal for a spanking new RIII Roadster or new gen VMAX but I've always wanted the big Honda six .

I brought a Valk to Alberta from Texas a few years back and it was a relatively painless process.  RIV paperwork is no problem as long as you make sure your ducks are in line, get an inspection at Canadian Tire for them.  Pay the GST at the border - that is all that the Feds want is the bucks.  Needed a Provincial Safety check for registration and insurance - cost 100 bux from a guy that teaches motorcycle mechanics at Fairview College.  That was it.  I imported mine from Washington State to BC and then brought it North by pickup as it was early spring.  Got it trucked to a point close to the border then went and picked it up.  Had Insurance on it from time of purchase along with the shippers insurance to make sure I was covered.  Rode it in Canada on the Texas plate until I got it registered here.  I owned it and it was insured just not registered so I think the only risk was a no proper plate fine.

Go to the RIV site for import details if you are interested - it explains it all.  Now is a good time to import because of the strength of the Canadian dollar to US currency.  Send me a message if you have any questions.

When I came back from Alaska the last time had the hots for another motorcycle. Went and rode the Rocket. I did not think it was as balanced as a Valk.

Deal breaker for me, I went and checked the routine maintenance visits cost. My God! It reminded me of my Volvo days. A lot of money for something that should be trouble free. At least that is what a Valk is, trouble free.

Welcome!

I was in your shoes about a year ago, I searched the want ads on this site, (by the way there are several low mile bikes on it now) I searched Craigs list, I searched ebay, and then I found a pristine 98 about 30 miles from my home. Keep looking,  you will find one.

In my opinion, THERE IS NOT A BETTER MOTORCYCLE ON THE ROAD FOR THE MONEY. There are faster ones, there are some that handle better, there are some that brake better, but they are usually twice the price of the Valkyrie's.

HRC, welcome to the madness!  crazy2

The Valk is STILL the best overall cruiser ever made. I loved the Rocket 3 very much myself & there are several Valk/R3 dual owners on this site. But...................... I was one of them & now we are a 2 Valk family.  Cool  Won't say there won't be another R3 in my future but I will NOT sell the Valk for any reason! The more you ride the Valk the more you will understand it.
Harley owners like to talk about the "Harley mystique", based largely on image & "heritage". Well I think the Valk has a WAY more powerful "mystique" based on the quality of the bike and of course "the ride".
If you ride a Valk you will not have to ask! Grin Grin
Enjoy your future Valkyrie! You won't regret it.

I have a 2002 Standard I bought in July of 2003 off of E-Bay.  2765 miles and $9200.  I rode it about 50 miles before I felt like i had been on it my whole life.

I have not been able to ride a lot.  She still has less than 30K on it.  But I doubt that I'll sell it any time soon.

I'd trade it for a an Interstate AND a Rune... but I can't find anyone to make THAT deal.
