We made it to Day 2 without killing each other or the kid.  Had to go to bed very early.  Looking forward to the day when we aren't so tired and dizzy!

It'll come... The first 3 months were the worst for me, I was sick a lot coughing up 20 years of crap outta my lungs...

It does get better... There will ALWAYS be the occasional desires, but they get easier to deal with, but they're still there...  I'm getting close to my 2 year mark... Just noticed that... Sweet...

Congrats to ALL the quitters out there... It ain't easy, but it IS doable...

Hi Ya'll.

New guy in Houston here.  Just got a 2000 I/S about 4 weeks ago.  Will be getting the training wheels off this weekend.

My wife and I quit lat Friday using Chantix.  So far,it hasn't been bad.  30 years smoking for both of us and with the Chanix, it is not too tuff.  We are saving a lot of $$ too.  Each day, I transfer what we would have spent on cigarettes into a savings account.  $90 so far.

I was a 2 pack-a-day smoker. I quit 3 times. Each one cold turkey. Awful, just awful. My approach was to wake up in the morning and just not smoke. Twice, after about 3 months, I'd let my guard down and the determination would fade. I'd have "just one". I quickly learned that there is no such thing as "just one". I finally got tired of quitting and quit one last time. Its been over 25 years and I've mostly forgotten what the attraction was to smoking, but I'll never, ever, forget quitting! Never again. Keep up the good work you quitters! cooldude

Just hit 33 days...was on Chanpex for 3 months but couldn't stop completely for more than a week, and I was paying about 80 bucks every 2 weeks and still smoking...decided that was nuts so a month ago I just quit the meds and now am doing the ocassional nicorette...and cinamon sticks provide a good replacement for something to do with your hands etc...the big test will be tomorrow on the long ride from here to Alabama...I can usually smoke a pack a day just cruising...anyway, nice to know I am not lone!

Ok Rachel and I got 3 days under our belt now. If you think it is easy. I got something to warn you about!!!! But looking back at this thread, I can see the progression is about the same for everyone. I got over 35 years into this smoking thing!!!  But I am kind of a stubborn guy too. We will try to be on our best behavior at Inzane this year....

About to end day 26 smoke free....

Wow it seems to be a bit easier this time than the last 3 or 4 times I have tried and this time I just went COLD TURKEY.
Maybe I really wanted to quit this time,,, I sure hope so. cooldude

The last few years I have been a closet smoker mostly NEVER in front of wife or kids,, and now that I have really quit instead of lying to my wonderful wife and I cant' even tell her I have quit for real again. tickedoff

Hey maybe the family is part of why I was smoking in the first place? ???

Come next week I am starting to put my $10 a week habit money into a jar and save up for a dirtbike so I can start riding full time with my sons.

Keep up the good work all you DARN QUITERS out there. Smiley Smiley

Hey DavRed and Rachel,

This thread is all about support.  We all support (and understand) your efforts.  Seems like about all of us are pushing 50 (or have pushed past 50) and smoked for at least 30 years.  Not easy for any of us but together as a group we can get through this.  If you can keep it up, you WILL start counting the days, then the weeks, then months, and eventually years.

While some take it “one day at a time,” I think one of the secrets for me was to see myself as a non-smoker (forever).  But whatever it takes to work for you is what you need.

Remember we are all pulling for you and look for the day that you will post one week, two weeks, one month, etc.

This thread made my goal easier.  I looked forward to being able to post to my fellow quitters and friends that I had managed 2 days, 3 days, 5 days, . . . now 6 weeks.  We are a support group and will not judge you if you relapse.  Just keep posting your progress here and use the posts to accomplish your goal.

I previously stated that I hoped the “non-smoking” thread would eventually be the longest thread ever.

Congratulations to all the quitters.

For the record: 6 weeks for me.

Hey DavRed (and Rachel) (my second daughter is named Rachel and she nagged me all her life for me to quit smoking),

Six weeks quitting is no more impressive than 4 days, it all depends where you start from.

If you want inspiration, start at the beginning and read all the posts in this thread (including your original post).

This is a great support group.

Remember, no matter what happens in your life, smoking a cigarette will only make you dependent again on cigarettes.  You never NEED to smoke another cigarette.

Congratulations to our newest members, DavRed and Rachel, and all the rest.

7 weeks here (note I am counting in weeks rather than days).  It does get easier.

I figure I have already saved $350.00 (one carton a week at $50 per carton).

It would be so easy to give in and buy a pack. but i won't.  I had an old friend tell me once, why smoke something thats not going to give you a buzz. lol.  You know now what he said makes a whole lot more sense.

1st time I've heard of someone getting dizzy after giving up cigs. I wonder if it's another of those tricks our brains play on us to get us to do what it wants. Also kinda of ironic. I remember the 1st time I inhaled cigarette smoke. I was sitting on a fence. got dizzy and nearly fell off. Duh, that should have been my sign.

Hang in there Sugarbee. Nobody on this thread will tell ya it's easy. But as the smokeless days go by it does get easier. Thanks for starting what I feel is one of the more important threads on this board. The thread that saves lives. Wife and I still get cravings but we talk through em and remind each other that we don't smoke. Not sure how long it's been. Do know we quit the same day Dag did.  Everybody hang in there. And remember don't give in to the cravings and they will ease. Thanks folks for the support!!

You can do it Sugarbee. You all are going to think I'm nuts but try this.
When you get a strong urge for a cigarette suck a Cinnamon candy, don't know why,
but I find it releaves the craving. Try it and let me know what you think.

YOU CAN DO IT!!!

I quit on my 50th birthday, March 25th. I have been smoking sigarettes for 35 years.
Today we had good Mexican food for dinner and shared a bottle of wine. My wife is still smoking, and after the dinner we was sitting in our garden, 80 deg F, a glass of fine red wine...  tickedoff I WANT A SIGARETTE  tickedoff I WANT A SIGARETTE   tickedoff  I NEED A SIGARETTE   tickedoff  I WANT A SIGARETTE    tickedoff

And than....  my daughter is shouting; "I love you daddy"

It was close, but she saved me this time. I want to be a helthy and good father for my daugher as long as possible.

Sugarbee, I know you can!

Well still smoke free. I'll tell ya there have been to many times to count how many times I wish I had a cigarette. With all the stress of being unemployed. But every time my lovely wife has reminded me that I am a non smoker and oh yeah we can't afford em. lol But it has been a two way street, I've had to remind her of how great she's doing and even if we could afford em, we are nonsmokers. Hang in there guys and gals as we all know smoking kills.

Hey, we all miss it.  Instead of thinking about starting again, think about:

1)  You no longer miss the $7.50 a day it costs to smoke

2)  Think about how much more enjoyable it is (will be) to sit through a sporting event, movie, concert, etc., without wishing the damn thing was over so you can smoke

3)  You never have to QUIT smoking again

4)  You no longer miss the $7.50 a day it costs to smoke

I'm sure there are more not counting the slow painful death stuff . . .
