Hard to say, the price is sure questionable. Too bad it's not after InZane, I'm planning on visiting family in Minn. afterward. I'd love to check it out but that's too far in the future. I'd contact the seller ahead of time, then show up with $2800 in my pocket and see what happens. Probably would want some iron in the other pocket...just in case.  Wink

I feel sorry for the poor guy who really owns that Valk.... those photos have graced about 3246 Craigslist ads in about 347 cities!

If he ever, for real, wants to sell it, he's screwed.

yea, it's a scam.

they put their whole craigslist posting in the picture, words, email, everything - to make it hard for a search to find those bogus key words. I saw the same at listed in Hudson, WI last week.

everyone knows it's a scam!  the question is, why?  the guy doesn't answere any emails, what does he gain to place so many adds around?  is he fishing for email addresses for spam or what?

when ever is see the add on craigslist i just click on the spam/overpost button on the right.

if anyone knows why this add keeps getting posted, let me in on it.

Someone with the 'right' contacts should run the VIN through the proper computers and find the true owner.

Oh well, still might kinda interesting(fun) to send an email and say you're on the way with cash, tell him you're just passing through and driving a pickup so you can take it with you. Or, reverse the scam; tell him you're sending him a cashier's check for $3,000 over the asking price and....well, you know how the rest goes.

Several reasons for these types of scams. Pharm (pronounced farm) email addresses is one. The biggest is to see if they can get you to purchase. They will fill you with a sob story of how they are a military family or something like that and would ask you to send a payment - maybe even a partial and they will ship you the bike. Often times hacked paypal accounts are used. what you will never get is an address to see the bike. Almost 100% of the time there is no phone number associated with the add nor do they ever offer one.

He wants you to wire him money for the bike. That's the scam. I replied to one of his ads just last week. Looks legit, and his use of "Southern Maryland" in the ad made it seem more authentic, since it's something of a local term rather than "Baltimore"  or "DC".

Just imagine if he gets one, just one person a month to fall for it. Over $30K a year just sitting at home.

This guy should be catchable though. He even sends a website full of photos. Surely that can be traced by law enforcement.

And if you think the price is a dead giveaway, it's not. I had a buddy get a gorgeous red and white Tourer with 10k miles off Craigslist for $2000 a couple years ago. No lie. He ran over there with his trailer, and by the time he got there the sellers were already having second thoughts because of the volume of emails they were getting. But he convinced them to let it go at the asking price.

Anyway, here's the scammers pitch. If you google it you'll see that he does it with other model bikes, too, not just this green Valk.

"This bike will make you proud, the price is $2,800.It is in excellent condition, never been involved in accidents,1500cc ,16,703 miles, VIN: 1HFSC3435WA100951,clean and clear title,no mechanical problems,no scratches, flaws or any kind of damage, all functional and it will need nothing in the near future.
I have the bike sealed at DAS terminal in Miami,FL ready to be shipped out will take 4-5 days through DAS and it will be free,my previous buyer(his loan did not get approved)already paid for it and DAS didn't want to refund him the shipping fee.
I cannot meet face2face I have a new job in Tucson, AZ I would like to use Autotrader Vehicle Purchase to take care of this deal, smooth and safe. Let me know if you have any other questions, hope i didn't miss anything.

No secret, I am the proud owner of the CL scam bike.  I bought it from the dealer who had it on eBay in December and got it for a great price because the CL scam.   I am amazed that another scammer stole the scam from the original CL scammer.  I have added a Memphis Fats and an Ultimate Low Boy since I got it.  Here's a photo of it in my driveway before the upgrades.

I saw the subject bike listed in the LA craigslist for $2800. The stated "location" is about 25 miles from me.

I was tempted to rush over there and snatch it...
but it was an obvious scam... I did not bother to contact him/her/it..?

Yours was a horrendous experience, which you chose to recount for us.
Indeed, I can appreciate your candor.

Some might feel ashamed of sharing such an experience with others...
but if you could not share your pain with kindred spirits w/o been ridiculed, then why bother belonging to a crowd that eats its young!

I probably would never meet you, but my heart goes out to you...

When I felt like rushing for the scam,  it dawn on me that I had just purchased my Black standard naked the week before for a very good price.

Paid under $5k, the lowest I've seen yet on a CLEAN machine on a non-scam sale.

Bought it on 18 March 2011 through CL at a state sale in Fort Mohave, Arizona.
The P.O. passed away two years ago and left 3 beautiful bikes behind. Mine had 35.5K miles when I bought it. It now has 36.3K miles.

I negotiated the price over the phone, no money down... then next day drove w/my wife the 270 miles and got frikin' lucky.

As I was counting the cash payment my knees were shaking like an SOB!

To top it off, the lady (seller) paid a 4-day stay for the wife and I  at a luxurious hotel in Laughlin, Nevada... 17 miles from Fort Mohave.

The hotel stay plus incidentals totaled above $650... not a dime out of our pockets.
We still can't believe and will never forget this wonderful experience.

When all was said and done, in essence I got this immaculate bike for around $3800!

================================================================

The two-tone Valk was obviously a scam... I did not bother to contact him/her/it..?
