Local forest fire in my neighborhood tonight (north Jersey). This helicopter pilot was something to watch. Dropping his ride down into Lake Owassa picking up water to drop on the fire. He would come with 6 feet of the water to "fill up".....wind was blowing pretty good but he kept on repeating his task....over and over.....Fire started by a transformer blowing.....families evacuated from both sides of the mountain. Quite an exciting afternoon!!

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

Neat! I watched them dump water out in sturgis in 2007. Kinda neat since we dont use choppers in our area.

alph,

It's dark here now.....fire is still burning so I'm sure no one is flying. There was also a couple of small planes dropping fire retardant, too.....lots of firefighters on the mountain......don't know what will happen through the night????

We use the forestry service here to assist us in grass/wood fires. Most of the time we just need their dozers to cut fire lines. Fairly flat here.
