I am contemplating doing a preventive maintenance rebuild of my clutch.  The lady has 110K miles and in the last several thousand miles, it has developed a slight shudder when the clutch is almost fully engaged.  So for those who have done this rebuild, what parts do I need..  Looking at the schematic, items 3-4-5-6 and 10,  which would be friction disks A and B,  clutch plate A and B,  and clutch spring.  Item 5 clutch plate A appears to be a metal plate with no friction material, do they normally need replacement as in this  case.  Did I miss anything that would be worth doing.  Any feedback is welcomed

I had this bearing go on mine...last inch of pull on lever and we would get noise out of clutch area...

That "slight shudder" could be caused by any number of reasons.

Try to find a way to stop the shudder rather than testing to see if it's still present.

I do not consider changing out the clutch as preventive maintenance. Changing the hydraulic fluid would be a maintenance item.

What if you did as you suggest and the shudder still remains. What would you then do?

I suggest going to a different brand/type oil and see what happens!

RTaz, thanks for the tip on the bearing, I will have some time when starting the process so I can order other items as needed, but hoped to get the majority of the parts up front.  Any other ideas, let me know. Someone posted a clutch rebuild some time back, maybe I should learn to use the search function......but, I am rebelling...

OK....my rebellion is over....did a search and came up with some really good stuff from Jeff K, RTaz and DFragn. I have a question about the picture with a comment "6 of 16 rivets failed".  At the 6 o'clock position in the pic, there are two discs with notches on the internal id and three "spacers" laying inside the discs.  Is this supposed to be one piece and held together with the rivets? In the next pic down, shows a threaded rod with the discs stacked. The second layer down, is that the piece with the failed rivets?

All in all, looking at these pics and a couple of video clips, this looks like a fairly easy task.  Thanks for posting the pics, videos and commentary.

Ya gotta love this list!

Ladydraco did a clutch job on her trike last year and had a good bunch of photos on the job. Maybe she'll repost them.

here is the plate with the rivets...8 rivets face one way 8 the other way...the plate should have some movement in it... that is what is supposed to shake free the clutch plate...(I don't know that's what I was told)
