Does anyone know what if any problems occur when the pair valve does not operate like it's supposed to?   I hear a tickin sound that I had originaly thought was the valves needing adjusting.
Nope they are right on.  It does how ever sound like it's coming from the center of the motor.  Bike only has 40,000 miles not even broke in yet.  Must be something simple.  Also does it make any difference that it's a California bike?  Just wondering?  Heading from the midwest MO over to the Dragons tail area in few weeks tyring to be prepaired ahead of time.

Well you found one of the problems but there are more the pair valve in itself is nothing but reed valves  that allow the exhaust to suck in air. Now first reed valves and exhaust dont mix well they really dont seal the way there supposed to. The valve that lets air into the pair valve can go bad causing a vacuum leak. In some cases they can cause backfiring.

Thanks for the input.  I have checked almost everything on the motor aside from taking it apart I can think of.  But I have not taken the PAIR valve apart yet.  The motor on both my Valk's has always been silent. This sound is realy irritating.  If the reed valves are replaced what is the chance the noise will stop as well?

Do a desmog and never worry about it again.  Plenty of info in ShopTalk and archives about it.  We'll even help talk ya through it.
