My father passed away two years ago and left me his trike.  I am now going through a divorce and my soon to be ex wants the trike.  I don't want him to have it.  I really want to keep it, but at the same time I've never driven a motorcycle and I'm afraid it would ruin if it just sits.  IF - big IF - I were to offer it to him as a sale, how much would be a fair price, not just for him but for anyone?  It has a little over 25000 miles on it.  It's a 1997 and 1800 cc engine and "motor trike" conversion.  I have some pictures if I can figure out how to put them on here.

Okay, I just put some pictures in JustPics.  Named:  My Father's 97 Valkyrie.  I really appreciate any help any of you can give.

I'm no trike expert by any means however I do surf the want ads and see them quite often...Standard trike depending on the chrome goodies between $12,500 to $13,500 if it was the Interstate model it would be worth a couple grand more....As stated this is just my opinion . Place a ad in the classifieds on this site and also use  http://www.craigslist.org/about/sites  its free of charge and thousands check it out everyday.

Thank you so much, when I uploaded the photo in JustPics I wasn't sure it could be seen clearly.  So this is a standard model with low miles?  Also, what does "motor trike" mean?  Is that because it's a motorcycle tricycle?  I have to say I'm surprised that it would sell for so much!  I figured a 1997 would be considered old.

Motor Trike is the Company that converted it, I believe.  Joe is about right on the prices.  Yours is not an Interstate, so the 12-14,000 range is about right.  Do not worry about the age.  I have a 97 too, and it is great.  These are good for 200,000 miles or more.

Lots of women ride the Valkyrie Trike.  If you want to, go for it!  The Valkyrie is a GREAT ride, trike or bike.

It's worth about 15k, give or take a thousand bucks, by the way it is a 1520 CC engine.  Hoser  cooldude

I ain't recommending this, but if it were ME, I might find a (really) good friend I could "sell" my trike to until after the proceedings had completed... it would only cost the taxes to change over the title.. just a thought. . .

Trikes are a learning curve, but it's definitely not impossible.

It's a hard decision.  My dad loved his trike.  It was driven occasionally after his passing, but nothing like when he was here.  I'm afraid my ex will just sell it, that's why I would rather sell it to him instead of running the risk of him getting it from the divorce.  You are all so helpful.  Definitely have given me something to think about.

if your at all interested is riding it.  as suggested before "sell" it to good friend  until after the divorce then "buy" it back.

surely there is someone near you to help with the learning curve and upkeep.

we're a pretty helpful lot around here.

good luck cooldude

Where do you live, what state?

Anywhere close to the Midwest?

If you want to sell to someone and then buy it back, let me know and I'll take ya up on the deal.......    Do you have anywhere to hide it and say it has been sold?  If you have a hiding place, let me know and if anyone calls I'd be glad to tell them I bought it from you.

Send me a PM if interested.

I know how bad these divorce things go, my oldest daughter got burned, BAD.   But that was her attorney's fault and since I was not in the same state, I knew nothing about it till it was over.

Keep your fingers crossed, a friend is asking her husband about it.  Maybe it will work out and I can have it close until all of this is over.  I am so glad I found this site.  I couldn't have asked for better support!  Thank you for your help, support, offers and advice!!
