To Chip and all of you that have contributed to this topic. I want to personally thank you for bring this up. On my most recent trip down to San Antonio via Topeka, ks. I was heading south bound on I35 through Oklahoma and I caught a glimpse of the Oklahoma DOT installing these in the median. Rather they are putting them on one side or the other. Another words it is on the edge of the shoulder on one side of the highway. I stopped to fill up just north of Oklahoma City and I happen to be gearing up when a DOT guy wearing his florescent green vest. I brought up to him what everyone was saying about these barriers and asked him why they were putting them up. He went on to mention a few points that can be argued but keep in mind he is doing what he is told to do to keep his job. He said that him and his co-workers watched a video showing how the cable barrier prevents "crossover" accidents. Second like the video mentioned from the MoDot said that it can be repaired in a fraction of the time. Third he said that this particular area that I was in has had a high number of crossover accidents. I agree with everything he said and if it keeps the cages on their side of the highway. Great.... BUT!!!! we are only half way their. We need to take care of ALL motorists not just "cages". I sure hope this will get to the right ears to make a difference. Oh and one last thing... This guy said that the reason it is on one side is so that it is easier to mow

Not a good answer in my opinion. And he said that he rode too and didn't agree with the barriers.
just a little bit more to the story.
I use to ride in the fast lane but I think I would rather deal with cars coming on and off the highway and staying in one piece!
