My wait is almost over! I leave in the morning to fly to Redding California and pick up my new (to me) 1999 IS. Then I begin the long (hopefully fun) ride back home to NE Kansas. Around 2000 miles. It is lookig like I will have to take a southern route as N. California and Nevada are getting some weather.

FINALLY!!!!!!!

Congrats on the purchase!  I did the same thing Dec. of '08 when I picked up my Valk in Ft Worth and rode home to the West coast.  Cold, windy, and - an amazing experience.  If I can make a clothing suggestion, layers, layers, layers!

And - what Bashful bob said - take LOTS of pics on the way.

And most importantly, have a safe ride back!

Cool cooldude I think the next bike I buy will be on the west coast, just to fly out and ride home. It's all about the ride! Good luck with the ride, and take your time and enjoy the trip.

Whatever it is, it's better in the wind.

On a road less traveled.

Thanks all! I appreciate it. As much as I would like to linger on this ride and take in scenery I need to make time to get home. The weather forecast all but guarantees I will be taking a southern route which makes the trip in the 2300 range. Most likely it will be superslab the whole way. One thing I have learned over the years of long haul trips. Keep plans to a minimum and be ready to adapt to whatever the road brings.
Have a great week/weekend  -I know I am going to try to!  Cool

Another possible suggestion.

IF you decide to run US 50 from Reno across Nevada etc.  Watch your fuel.  US 50 is called the 'Loneliest Highway in America'.  Fuel stops are about 100 miles apart.  Just a fore-warning.

Congrats on the new ride and upcoming trip.  I would skip I-70, we are still a bunch of snow in the high country.

Well I made it home safe and sound. 2198 miles in 64 hours taking I-5 to I-40 to I-35 and home ( roughly) hit some cold and wind but almost no moisture. More info to come soon but it was a great trip with only 1 complaint - when you are trying to make time on a motorcycle trip taking a valkyrie is not the way to go. Every time you stop somebody wants to talk to you about the cycle your ridding.  ;-)

Had an unseasonal storm roll through about the time you were scheduled to be in NorCal.  Hope you managed to run between the rain squalls and high winds.  Talked to "Mike" yesterday.  Said it was a good time.  How about the nine miles of twisties west of Redding?  Regards, sheets

"Mike" is a great guy and he and his wife were wonderful hosts. I somehow managed to miss all the weather and the twisties would have been alot more fun if a CHP hadn't pulled up behind me a few miles outside of willow creek :-(
thanks again for your help Sheets - sorry we couldn't meet while I was there. Guess I'll just have to come back in the near future ;-)
