This discussion came up in the wrench party thread, I thought it might be worthy of it's own thread though...

Discussion on carrying a longgun/shotgun on a motorcycle...

While I believe it to be legal, I'm sure you'd be harassed for disturbing the peace if it was out and in the open, however I've carried longguns in a hard case strapped to the back seat several times with no issues. AR15's are nice because you can break 'em down and put all the parts into the saddlebag, but I've had several different long guns strapped across my back seat in hard bags when heading out to my land before.

I even took a SAIGA 12 home form the gun show in it's cardboard box... (Was planning on looking at handguns, saw a good deal on a SAIGA 12 and decided to grab it instead, but then had to figure out how to get it home...)

Wrapped in towels and them inserted into a black garbage bag. Anything to conceal its profile.
Naturally it should be unloaded, just in case (accident or inspection).

Strap to the bike in a way that is secure and hides the profile.

Good luck

With a sling across my back and the ammo locked in the saddle bag.  Never been stopped or questioned.  Some looks from passing cars but....open carry is legal here anyway    Smiley

I've carried my deer rifle to the range in a hard case strapped in the rear seat area on my I/S. It is a short gun and case and barely stuck out passes the saddlesbags.

No Texas law against it (including loaded), but if people get scared and call 911, you are likely to get pulled over. Avoid schools and hospitals.

All good info.  Preciate it.  I only have a soft case though but it does have a strap.  Though I find it unlikely that the woman would let me take it like that.  We'll see. I've got a AR15, well, actually its the womans, but then I would have to buy a scope for it and I prefer the larger cal of a 308 vs a 223.

I would think a mounted rifle/shotgun scabbard with some sort of a locking system would be fine.   Someone's bound to have a nice design out there...
We used to keep our hunting rifles mounted in the rear window of our pick up when I was a kid...don't see that too much anymore. Sad

I think this paintball tank seems better suited for dodging the cages in the metro-mess.

Just make sure the silencer is exposed if you want to have some REAL fun showing off your paperwork. You do have a permit for that scrub brush handle, eh Bill? ~Jeff
