Just looking for a little information about accidents involving motorcycles, laydowns and car tires vs MC tires.

Not trying to stir anything.  Just some info gathering.  Let's please keep things civil.

Thanks in advance!

I voted no. I never been down but have had the front slip out a few times in WY on tar snakes. I related it to 90 deg and a getting wore out front Metz. MC tire on the back. Year later it did not slip on the same tar snakes. Did have a CT on the back tho. Could also be that I was more cautious to.

I didnt vote because the reason for my crash didnt seem to be within the criteria of what you are looking at.  Another motorcycle took out the back and cause us to "low side" but it was two M/C tires which wouldnt have made a diff either way  tickedoff

Plus, to compile any useful stats, wouldn't you need to know the specific tire combo's for the group voting "NO" accidents?

Just saying.   Roll Eyes

I don't see that there is anyway to make this data anything other than anecdotal at best.

Non scientific, your results may vary... blah blah blah.

I've low-sided more than once.  How many times can I vote?  Embarrassed

Only once.  I don't see how to change it.

I had BOTH tires slide out on me once in a HARD corner... I kept it upright... barely, and ended up ditch diving, while still keeping the shiny side up.  That was a wild ride.

2 MC tires for that BTW.

I voted no but there was an incident a couple of years ago.  I was making a turn from one street onto a major road when the front tire slid on some Mardi Gras beads in the road.  I jerked the Valk back upright and regained control.  The girl on the back never knew anything was wrong.  The city's Mardi Gras parade was the day before and the parade route hadn't been cleaned up.

I voted no, but I've been closer than I'd like to voting "front tire slid
out, car tire on back". Once with a worn Metz and at least twice (dry
roads) with a Dunflop E3.

It was 7 yrs ago, on my then '83 honda v65 magna.
It had just rained, I had a full leather get-up, had to cross
a wood surface bridge. Half-way across I was giving it gas,
the back end started to go side-to-side.
It eventually went down, slid another 20 feet with me following.
The bike and I stopped together in a heap. We were both OK.
I believe the tires were bridgestone spitfires.
The rear was worn.
Very careful on wood and wet now. No downs on the valk yet,
cross fingers, toes, and anything else that crosses (ouch).
voted yes

I agree that some types of tires can be helpful in some instances but every time my bikes have hit the ground no tire wound have helped.

Road Captain CMA VA. 40 bikes behind me 2 Motorcycle tires, making left turn at green light trying to get everybody through, gassed it and fishtailed HARD  Cheesy i don't know how i stayed up ? must of been the MX days of my youth kicked in LOL, Of coarse when we made our first rest stop all seen it, all i could say was, I Meant To Do That !! The Motorcycle tire for my App was not the answer it would just smoke all the time ? like it was wet  Roll Eyes The CT seems safer for hard acceleration. JMHO ....i voted NO. but had to change my shorts.

yes, but not the tires fault (both MC by the way), WAY too much brake and a flinch due to car failure to yield.  Both tires went out.  Missed the car  Smiley but the bike and the leather didn't fare so well  Sad

I didn’t vote since this doesn’t fit into the parameters. GY TT on back, Avon on front. Both tires slid out on some road debris in a right hand corner I overloaded my ass in. Tires hooked back up before I was off the road, didn’t crash but did have to ride home with a broken leg. Some days are like that.

If I’d been on the OEM dunlop tires I don’t think they would have hooked back up before I left the road. I don’t think the CT mattered much either way.

No because I run the tires the manufactureer told me to run.

But more than few people have a car tire on the rear and have the front tire slide.

the reason is simple physics, if as you roll up on the side of the car tire, the center of the tire is

no longer on the ground , causeing the front end to push to regain center .

the tires have to follow one another or you see what truckers call off tracking and there is the problem.

As long as you ride at a sedentary pace this won't make much of a difference.

Straight line interstates and you will be fine.

Hit the twisties a little too hard and the darn thing can swap ends on yah like my buddy

Smokin Joe has done several times.

He always blames the front tire as the culprit.

But that is far from the case.

This post will probably get pulled and somebody will die running a car tire and that won't be on my hands at all.

AL.AL.AL....didn't you promise NOT to get into the Darkside debate again? Shocked
Also, there IS a place to vote for mc tires front and back.

Are the videos that show the car tires flexing so that they DON'T run up on the edge rigged?

Is there ANY possibility that you are wrong Al?  I don't know either way.  I am willing to admit it.  I'll change my mind.  I am NOT saying you are wrong here... only that I think it healthy to admit the POSSIBILITY that one is wrong.

I have seen the videos where the CT flex's and keeps 1/2 of itself in contact with the road.  People who ride behind me say the same thing.  That the tire flex's and maintains a wide contact patch, to near the center, if not fully the center of the tire, even on a hard corner.

I also bear witness to some... who get back on a MCT after riding a CT for a while, and say... "Wow!  I forgot what this was like!  I am NEVER going back to a CT!!"

I might get that opportunity soon, as I am thinking about buying an Interstate, and have a couple in the pipeline.  Both of them have MCT's and I'll get to ride them home with them.
