I will be on the road and traveling through the Nashville area (about May 22nd......May 29th) and expect I will be needing to have a rear tire mounted on my I/S around that time. Does anyone know of a trusted dealer, M/C shop in that area that will mount one for me??? I can't get it done up here in NJ before I hit the road......still have a couple thousand miles of rubber left....I have the tire and will ship it down to my parents' house in Hendersonville, TN, and would like to have someone who is recommended by our group rather than a stranger!!

Thanks in advance,
Mark

It ain't none of my business but if I was takin' a road trip and had any whatsoever tire concerns I'd deal with it before I ever hit the road.....I live in east Tennessee and can't help with any motorcycle shop in middle Tennessee.

What Joe says... you'd save the additional mileage on the tire in freight for the tire.

Just ONE man's opinion.

Well... Two I guess... Shocked

A new tire cost what? about $150?

the average miles on the back end what? about 10 to 15K?

You have a couple thousand miles left so you don't want to start a trip with fresh rubber?

What is that saving you? $20.00 to $30.00 of rubber?

Like Jabba said, the shipping costs will cost half that or more, and if you blow the current one out before it's time to change, you will end up with a new tire at the mercy of the stealer for pricing, and you will have to ship the other tire back home.

I know you are not asking me, but if it were me. I would start with a fresh tire if for no other reason than peace of mind. I am very frugal, OK, CHEAP, but that savings does not ad up.

You got 10 days to get it mounted if you can't find a motorcycle shop in NJ in 10 days then things up there are different than in Dixie. We've got motorcycle shops in every town and all points in between.

I've got a used Dunlop sitting in my garage that you can have.  It has plenty of tread on it, the only reason I removed it was to mount an Avon to match the front.  Of course I will throw in all the lawyer stuff to protect myself...use at your own risk....I am not warranting it for specific performance of any kind..etc.etc.

I have used Honda of CoolSprings and have been very pleased with their service....they are about 5 miles from my house.  If you decide that you want the tire, simply drop me an email.

Some dealers won't rush a tire change on a tire they didn't sell. I'm sure if you check around you might find another dealer in your area willing to mount it for you. If you spend a lot money with that particular dealer I would remind him of that ! I sure wouldn't start a trip with a tire I didn't trust.

When it comes to this stuff, I usually don't speak up.      But, since I have picked several riders off of the pavement after they crashed because of a worn out tire at the start of the trip, I'm asking 1 question.

Where is you head?   Sounds like also someone stole your brains.

Change the firkin tire at home.  Ya got a telephone, get on it and start makiing calls......   You can ride it up/down or where ever and scuff it in good on the way home.......

Hi Mark,
Have you tried Motorcycle Madness on rt 94 in Lafayette. Tommy and his guys have mounted my tires front mc tires and rear car tires for years. Reasonable prices. I try to purchase mc front tires from him but the car tires I but online and he mounts them.

If you need help to pull the tire let me know I would be glad to help.

Like others have said, don't push it if you can avoid it...  I went only 300 miles, from my place to Doc's place, for the CBR last year.  Like you, I was nearing the end of my rear tire, and just figured I'd get the last 700 - 800 miles out of it...  That trip, ended up being the only time my Valk has ever been on a trailer...  While gassing up, for the CBR on Saturday, I checked the tire, and you could damn near see the air through it (cord showing almost all around).  Lucky for me, there was another WI rider that had room on his vendor trailer, and on Sunday, I was a Trailer Queen, for the first time, just to get home...

It seems to me that the last portion of the tire tread (10%) goes away much quicker than the first (90%)...

Hope you can find someone near home, to help you out.

If you can't bring yourself to throw away the tire with some life left in it, dismount it, stow it in the garage somewhere, and when you wear out your new tire, remount that one and run it around town to use up its last bit of life.
No reason not to, that I can think of...

Black Dog has a good point too.  I trailered my bike to South Carolina once, thinking I had enough tire for a vacation there... next thing I knew I was on chords and I was close to $400 out the door for a rear tire mounted at the local stealership.  I had to ride it home in a monsoon to boot.
