Found a 98 std. in Pittsburg, TX to maybe replace my totaled (last Tues) 98.
Any of you Texas board guys live near there and would be willing to take a look and maybe send me a pic or two? I can't guarantee the same sucess as when I looked at one for Dag and helped him get it to Norway-but I am a buyer too.
There's another in Houston at Bob Lunsford's Northwest Honda that looks real good but a little pricey.

Hey ricoman,

I heard about your recent "incident" while returning from our recent Iron Butt Saddle Sore 1000 and just read the related thread on the General Board.  Glad to know you're mostly OK.  Now we're connected on at least 2 levels.  If your name is really Dave, that makes three.  It would seem that I'm the natural selection to go to Pittsburg on your behalf.  Let me know if I can help you in any way.

Anyone up for a ride to Pittsburg after Saturday's breakfast?  It'll be hotter than heck but we could help out Ricoman.

Thanks you guys
found a couple (3 actually) local (100 miles) that may work
the pittsburg bike is a sedona red/cream std., asking 6900 but one of my favorite combos (next to the yellow/cream I used to have). Shipping from TX is an extra cost of 400+ and that is a consideration.
I'll check out the FL ones first- 98 std, blue/cream, 19k miles, asking 5500. The others are black tourers (2), one has 18k, 1998 ($5600 asking), the other 2000 tourer, 16k, $6500 asking.  All will probably need tires and maybe carbs done-does not bother me.
My guess is, one of these can be had right-even if I settle for a second choice color and I can go pick it up.
Save your weekend ride for someplace you enjoy-I'll keep you posted and will listen to your opinions on choices.

It's good to have choices.  The Tourers sound good.  Standing by until further notice.

Ride?  Did you say ride?  After almost 8,000 miles in less than four weeks, I was going to take the cage...   Wink

have to agree about that -my totaled bike was yellow/cream, always got compliments
the new (to me) one is (gasp/choke!) black! I will now be inconspicuous because half the bikes on the road seem to be black. Maybe I'll but spikes on my helmet to stand out a little.
To Pensacola and back in one day (1000 mi. round trip)-my daughter will share the driving. If I was half my age I'd do it alone but...
Was gonna ride it back but am leary about that on a strange machine.

That's why God made paint - you can always make it creme and yellow, even customize it.  Or leave it as is - the percentage of black Valks seems to be high.  You will never be inconspicuous on a Valkyrie.

Glad you will be back on the road.  Be careful and check those rear-view mirrors a little more often!

funny thing, Rainmaker, I preach rear view use to anyone who will listen (cage drivers too). Put 1" risers on my mirrors (machined billet from a guy in NZ) to raise 'em up so I don't look down to look back. Got them off the old bike and they will go on the new one before I ride. Would never use the baby size mirrors a lot of folks use.
I check the mirrors every time I use the brakes-no one was behind me when I started to slow, there was a guy in the left lane behind me-turns out he was the one the rearended me. He was still texting when I got off and ran back to his car, just before he dropped the phone in his lap and put the car in reverse in reverse!
It's over, am very thankful it wasn't worse.
Got a few more miles to go-someday I'd like to get to Texas and meet you guys.

Mirrors are a very useful tool.

I got real serious about rear views after my crash in 2001.  I've missed two more rear enders by seeing what was happening and pulling over or out of a lane and hard acceleration afterwards.  In one of those near misses, the driver who hit the car I had just been behind did the same thing - reversed and then took off.  I followed and got his license plate for the driver who was hit. So I know where you are coming from.

Again, safe riding and when you plan that trip to the Republic of Texas, let us know.
