Jimmy, our son, is an Army ROTC cadet at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff.  During a field exercise, he was assigned to “attack” a designated bunker, but also instructed not to strike if he was outnumbered by more than three soldiers.  As Jimmy made his approach, he saw a crowd of people around his target, some in civilian clothes.   Since he was vastly outnumbered, he set off a smoke grenade for cover and conducted a by-the-book retreat.    Jimmy’s Captain intercepted him.  “Cadet, do you know what you’ve done?  Unbeknownst to my son, a group of reporters was covering the event.  He had just retreated from the press.

Funny you should mention Flagstaff.  Someone very dear to me who lives in Arizona asked me yesterday, "What would you think of someplace like Flagstaff for InZane?"

I said, "Hmmm?"

Flagstaff would be great for IZ.....   and smoke bombing the press, apparently.

Nope.....too darn hot that time of year. I realize it's near the San Francisco mountains, but getting there would be like going across Kansas to Colorado the first year IZ was there....104 in the shade. And there wasn't any shade in the middle of Kansas. I've traveled New Mexico in July and August, as long as it was in the high country in the north....fine. But even the Four Corners area was so intensely hot about 8/1 we couldn't handle it. I'd still probably try to make it though, have family in Phoenix I haven't seen in awhile....and there's always Mike K and his GPS that is programmed to "lead us not into temptation, but dead-end streets."   2funny 2funny
