My son Chris, loves snakes. He's even caught rattlers. Pig nose, or bull nose or sometimes called pigmy rattler. Non-venumous.
He actually has the ability to flaten himself to slither underneath this stick.

I caught on 30+ years ago and the guys with me called it a pygmy but it was a pignose. Just like this one. It is a Southern or maybe Eastern pignose. Harmless.

We called them Hognose. The head shape is all you need to know, this is not a poisonous snake.

I looks like a hognose snake which are non-venomous but can put on quite a show acting deadly.  Caught a lot of them when I was a kid living in Arkansas.

When at scout camp one year, I caught a hognose just a bit smaller than that the first day. Had a great week hauling him around everywhere. We had a ritual where on Friday, every caught animal was put into a barrel and then we watched which animal crossed the rope first. It was a good way for the camp to make sure none of us went home and surprised our moms with a snake or a rat.
