American by Birth, Southern by the Grace of God.

Beautiful east Tennessee ( GOD'S Country )

« on: May 23, 2010, 01:45:03 PM »

We took off this morning headin' toward The Great Smoky Mountains. All the years I've lived around here and today was my first time to check out Fort Dickerson .One of the Union forts built to protect the southern approaches to Knoxville, Fort Dickerson is now part of a city park. Confederates under Gen. Joseph Wheeler attacked the place Nov 15-16, 1864, but were turned back.I could'nt find any information about numbers killed at this battle  Undecided

My ridin' bud Greg checkin' out the rifle barrel of the cannon.

Went through Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg just to check out the women  Cool  Took Little River Road over into Cades Cove and then hit The Foothills Parkway. Here's a few pictures from Little River Road and The Foothills Parkway.

We was takin' a break in the shade when the dude on this bike came rolling in wanting to know if we had any tools he said " My air-filter fell off going down the road  " We hooked him and got him rollin' again. I like the color combo on this bike and think it would look good on a Valkyrie.

The plan at this point was to see if we could get the dude guardin' US 129 to let us through so we would'nt have to go all the way around to The Cherohala Skyline to hit The Dragon. He said " Hell No , No Way "....He claimed they had one lane open for awhile to let the cops and meat wagon in but last thursday they blew the whole side of the mountain off into the road he said " It's got more rock in the road now than it had when the rockslide happened " . It was a beautiful day in the hood and perfect for motorcycling in the mountains.

Hardly Davidson.

Tha's a classic, did he really ask for some wrenches?

If he did that is a classic.

Big Al

Had another TIA today, and the fun is getting too much for me I think.

Glad you all had a good ride.

Traffic was'nt all that bad in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg today and we got to turn them loose on Little River Road and Foothills Parkway. Hope we can ride together again someday Bob. Looks like we'll have a very nice turn-out of Valkyries next weekend...Ground zero ...Knoxville, Tennessee.

Nice pics Joe. It was a great day for riding. We went up 181, explored some back roads, and then rode the BRP from Grandfather to Little Switzerland. They have cleaned up the trees and limbs and the pkwy is open.
I guess you'll be on the road tues. while I'm in Clinton ?

We will be late Friday night getting to Knoxville, The Texas Road House of Chattanooga is my favorite restaurant around. I'm sure the Knoxville location is killer to. I have a neice that will be graduating  from High School Friday Night, after that I will be on the road toward Knoxville. See Ya'll 4D9ER  Grin
