The Landmass Between Mobile And New Orleans

« on: May 24, 2010, 08:30:50 PM »

I've got a friend who wrecked her bike last week.  All cosmetic damage.  State Farm wants to total it.  She's thinking about buying it back from them and putting it back on the road.  Anybody know what has to be done in Mississippi to get a bike with a salvage title back on the road.  Also, what about insurance?  Is she going to be stuck with liability only or will she be able to get full coverage?

I don't know about Mississippi, but I found it strange when the 'wing was wrecked last year here in TX.  If I had retained the hulk, it would have retained a clear title even though it was wadded up way past the point of being a good mechanical, electrical, or economic decision.  I took the total loss settlement, signed the title, Sentry/Dairyland took possession and sold it by contract to the salvage yard.  At some point during those transactions the title became salvage.

I bought a 98 tourer from a dealer in Alabama it was wrecked and they totaled it ,The ins co.it has a salvage title I brought it home to Louisiana and repaired it I then had to bring it to the local Sheriff they inspected it and checked the frame and motor numbers and then gave me a ststement that it had been repaired and it was then roadworthy I took this and the bill of sale to the DMV and they issued a title for the bike

I had a 99 tourer with a salvage title here in Texas. I had no problem titling or insuring it. The bike had been totalled  because of front fender, bags and windshield damage. no real damage and I got it at a great price. I sold it to a friend and he is still driving the hell out of it.

Don't know about MiSS. but I was rear ended and Progressive totaled the bike... All cosmetic damage. I kept the bike, they deducted the salvage value from the settlement and I have a clear title. I had to save all my repair receipts and may have to have the bike appraised, still have Progressive, but unclear on what they would pay if it was totaled again.. at least the salvage value and repair totals is what I was told, but if I had it appraised ti would help the overall value. To me, I couldn't stand the thought of my new to me bike going to someone else after i had looked 6 months to get the one I had dreamed of since 1998! I am looking at other companies now, since the Progressive runs out in June
