In search of a Rad leak.

Hi all,

My wife and I got back May 19th from a round trip to Utah, and had a consistent Rad leak.

The second day out on our trip, while warming up the engine in the morning just prior to riding, I noticed a small amount of antifreeze below the Rad. I could also see that it came from the top, but nothing I could see. I kept an eye on things that day and checked the level the next morning. The Rad was full.

I started the bike and within 2 minutes it had leaked again. I looked for the source and nothing was obvious. When I stood the bike up level, the antifreeze drools down the other side.

For the rest I the trip I checked the Rad level daily, it was always full when cold.

Today I finally have time to grab some beers and go sort this out.

Speculation anyone?  The leak stops quickly and only loses about an once or two.

Great ride! 18 days, 3700 miles. We were cold, wet and even a little scared. But it was worth it!
Victoria, Seattle (Rain), The Dales (Very Cold), Biose, Salt Lake(Snow), Arches, Bryce, Zion(Hail), Cedar City(severe snow and slush), Reno, Mt St. Helens,Home. The temperature ranged from 30-85.
We had mostly good weather days, but some of the weather I would not ride in again. 50mph gusting cross winds driving the rain on the I5 at 70mph, with people tailgating, that part of the trip left needing a drink and a warm bath.

its more than likly your top hose from the rad to the engine that is loose just snugg it up alittle but not too too much as to strip the clamp

also check the overflow tube. mine got cut by an addon chrome cover on the radiator cap.

Try taking a piece of chalk and drawing a circle around the neck, overflow tube, water pump, and anything else you can get to.  The water will leave a trail in the chalk so you can see where it came from.  I had a leak from the cap and bent the tabs up a bit.  A few years later I had one from the hose at the bottom going into the water pump.  Found them both using this trick.
