When I look at the left fork in relation to the speedometer gear box a little bit of axle can be seen, is this normal.

Or should the left fork rest against the speedometer with no axle visible.

Everything is tight, I am just curious.

Thanks

It is normal. If you haven't had the axle out you wouldn't see the step on the axle. The fork will be placed on the larger part of the axle so that the rotor is centered in the caliper.  To get this spacing, the stepped part of th axle will be exposed on the inside of the forks. It will only do this on the left side.

If in the lower tube is drawn in tight your rotor rivets will contact the caliper and it will cause the lower fork tube to be misaligned creating stiction in that tube and sometimes a light seal leak.

Others may chime in with exacting measurements.
