Got a question for the mechcanics here.... My brother owns a 98 standard and recently has been having problems with his temp light. About a six weeks ago while riding his temp light kept coming on, so he took it in to the local honda dealer and they replaced / changed his coolant...( NEVER BEEN CHANGED, I KNOW, I'VE BEEN TELLIN HIM). When we returned from our trip to the Devil Hwy 666, he now says the light doesn't come on when he first turns on the power. So today we went back to the dealer and they are advising him that the entire "tachhead" needs to be replaced because there is no way to get to the l.e.d. area and to just replace the whole unit. ($256.00) Would this be true??????????      Thanks in advance..............

PS:     Ask him to see if his license plate light comes on.

If not, there is a fuse blown.

Long story short, supposedly this indicator and this LP light have something in common on a blown fuse.

Heard lots of reasons for it and only 1 so far makes sense.

The Light no work, it signals you have a blown fuse and no license light.

The temp light does not ever come on unless the engine overheats,  If you must check it, unplug the fan fuse and let it warm up while standing still. It will come on.  When it does, plug that fuse in quickly.   Grin  Grin Hoser

Quick question, will the fan come on if left
at idle?
Also is it the iol light that comes on when you
start up a standard or tourer?

The fan will come on if left at an idle and not rolling. The hot light shouldn't come on if the fan works right. The '97 & '98 Valks had a different hot light wiring circuit and the hot light comes on whenever it feels like it. There's a module that needs to be replaced to fix that. RP knows a way to upgrade to the '99 and later wiring so that problem won't happen again. My hot light twinkles like a star in the heavens. I just ignore it. The Tru-Tel oil temp guage tells me what I need to know.
