I know he pulled his trailer to Tucamcari and beyond, so he had some kind of hitch on the bike.

Yes we did, however I think it had a slight flaw in the design. Instead of bolting the cross plate we should have welded it. when we hit rr tracks pretty hard the plate slipped causing the reciever to tilt downward. Not a huge problem. However Willow was selling a hitch Doc which I bought and installed so I will use the homemade one on my other bike.

Hey Pat,

I have heard that complaint from the bolted cross plates several times.  I don't remember what people have done to fix that problem though...larger bolts would be the only thing I know that would...tight fitting holes...less slop...you know...

Welding should fix it. I thought access was needed for rear tire removal but all that is needed is to jack the bike up higher and loosen shocks

I went the home made route for mine. Actually, I made it out of cardboard and took it to the welding shop and had them do the steel fabrication.

After powder coating.

Pat - do you have the measurements for it? I talked to MrBubbles, and he recommended I see if you have accurate measurements. I plan on making my own, and would rather not start from "scratch" if I can help it. I have a pretty well furnished shop - lathe, mig welder, plasma cutter, etc - so won't be any problem making a couple of them.

And I agree, unless you want to keep the bolts for some reason, welding would be the most secure.

Thanks, in advance...

I never have had a problem with mine but if I had to do it again I would most likely weld mine too. I made the bottom removal to ease in tire removal.  cooldude
