Fudgie:  First, I’m very sorry to hear of you losing a child at birth.  As a parent, I cannot imagine the deep sadness that would cause.

As for Kit, I suggest explaining to her that her beliefs are her own personal beliefs, and you also have your beliefs.  You should respect hers, and ask that she respect yours.  Putting pressure on you and using guilt are classic techniques of the cult mentality, and it is a sign she is putting those beliefs above your relationship.

Bobbo, I've tried to stay out of this debate, however, for you the Bible is very true. God speaks to us all through his devine creation/nature. However, many will never believe and have hardened their hearts' towards God. And that's alright I guess, if that is how one wants to live their lives. But you are sorely mistaken when you call being a Christian a cult. You have no idea of what it means to be a true, born again believer because you do not have the Holy Spirit dweling in you. And to call what I've experienced a cult, well, all I can say is God help you.

I have copied a section of Wiki (A favorite around here!) about what generally defines a “cult”.  My comments about some religious groups follow in italics.

1.   People are put in physically or emotionally distressing situations;
Telling them that they will burn for eternity if they don’t comply.  Stories of extraordinary torture by a near omnipotent horned being at the center of the Earth.
2.   Their problems are reduced to one simple explanation, which is repeatedly emphasized;
There is only one truth, one way to save yourself, one god, it’s so simple, even a caveman can do it!
3.   They receive unconditional love, acceptance, and attention from a charismatic leader or group;
Our savior loves you no matter what you’ve done in the past, as long as you join us.
4.   They get a new identity based on the group;
You are “born again” into the “family”.  You are now privileged over the non-members of the group.
5.   They are subject to entrapment (isolation from friends, relatives, and the mainstream culture) and their access to information is severely controlled.
Your friends are now your enemies if they don’t believe the way we do.  Don’t read literature that is contrary to our teachings, especially movies depicting our beliefs in a negative way.  Listen only to certain radio shows, the others are infected by people of the horned one.

As I’ve said before, not all people fall into this general description, but I know quite a few who do.

Bobbo, you can't leave this stuff alone can you .

Could it be you are a little bit interested in becoming a Christian?

It has it's benefits.

One of the things I learned first after becoming a Christian, is other Christians that have not

been born again don't particularly like you anymore, just like a lot of worldly friends I had.

but your true friends always stick with you.

Religion sucks but is a needed thing, they are spreading the word without really ever coming

to the knowledge of the truth.

But never the less spreading the word.

The path to ruin is wide , but the path to salvation is narrow.

And to the astonishment of many, few really find it.

Not my words at all.

Paraphrasing the Bible.

Look and you shall find , knock and it shall be opened.

Some of the People that really persecuted the early people of the way , became entrapped in this

movement from being really close to a lot of these

meetingas and goings on and it sucked them in like a vacuum.

love and forgiveness will do that.

One of the fellows that stoned Stephen , a deacon, got really put to the test ,

and ended up doing quite a bit for A Fellow Named Jesus.

You better leave it alone Bobbo or you could get sucked into this power that is slightly

irresistable

Once it knocks on your door.

Well, bobbo, as far as applying this to my church......
#1 is mostly true....except maybe for the "near omnipotent" remark.
Don't give Satan that much credit. He's a liar and a thief.
#2 is 99% right...."God" should be capitalized.
#3 is almost right. Some Christians take a while to get over their religious upbringing
and learn unconditional love. You have to love people you don't even like.
And God loves you whether you "join" or not. Doesn't mean you won't get punished
    for making the wrong choice.
#4 is mostly right. Bible says "Create in me a new heart" thus "a new being". Not sure
     what "priveleges" you mean......free parking?
#5(*) Can't comment. I've never been told what movies to see, books to read, etc. And
I'm too intelligent to listen to talk shows.

I agree that some "religions" try to control their people (Westboro Baptist, etc) but I thought
this was about Christians..not religion. Don't know why so many people can't distinguish between
the two.

I use the phrase “near omnipotent” since Satan (as you name him) is described as a fallen angel, with powers to corrupt mortals and will live for eternity.  That’s pretty powerful.

The word “god” in this context refers to a general class or category, not a proper name, so it is proper grammar to use lower case.

The privilege is a free pass to heaven.  It is supposedly denied to non-followers.

All that's fine and probably fits most religions and "cults". However, just like any relationship, it's what you make of it. I have a personal relationship with the creator. And to be honest, it doesn't matter what you think of that.

We all will live forever, just where is to be determined by our acceptance or rejection of the Gift that Jesus gave us thru His death and ressurection. Either you will live withThe Father in Heaven or be tormeted in Hell forever with satan. By the way satans only real weapon is lying and decite he twists the truth and lies about the outcome.

The Bible says that wide is the path to destuction...many will go that way.....narrow is the way to God and few (relitively) will find that way.  Also the Bible says that its very hard for a rich man to get to heaven......In America we are all  rich compared to the majority of the rest of the world........so I say way more dont make it to heaven than do

Satan is ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

The Prince and Power of the Air.

He is the little "g" god of this world, the material world and the Father of all is Yawah , or The God of the Bible, yes that even created Satan.

But did not plan for Satan to fall, in fact Satan was one of the Most Glorified Angels in Heaven.

My how the mighty has fallen.

Now who we need to be concerned about is a relationship with God's only Son, Jesus.

Nothing else, he has taken the Keys of Death and the Grave away from Lucifer and he is in

charge of those things.

He will judge between the Quick and the Dead.

We call this the Judgement seat of Christ.

To rightly divide the Word that you read is up to the one that has eyes to see and ears to hear

if any man lack knowledge , let him ask The Lord and he will guide you in all ways of Rightousness.

ask For Guidance, do not take another man's word for anything.

This is the principal that Jesus always taught.

His power is to give you Revalation as to who he is.

The true Church is built like this and man has little or no power to corrupt this and that does not

sit well with a lot of people and that is the way it needs to be.

No, lies and deceit do not equate with power in my book, but let's move on.

Generally speaking, yes. But putting "one" in front means "one God" to me.

Well, duh!! Heaven or Hell....no other choices. And it's not really free, it's just that your ticket
has already been paid for. Whether or not you accept it is up to you.

You're a little confused about "everybody", but there's still time for you.

Should be plenty of those you mention there, plus a bunch of the dregs from our prisons...

Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when You come into Your kingdom!"

And He said to him, " I assure you: Today you will be with Me in paradise."

For me the Thought of being seperated from God is Hell enough.

Cast into outer darkness is the Term.

No Heavenly Help or Love to comfort you.

No future and no end to not having a future.

Just a wait until the destruction of what makes you, you.

Your soul or spirit.

Dead Man walking and no hope of reprieve.

Who would choose that, but if You turn him down here that is the hope and future you will have.

But he will not make you do anything, so it's up to the individual.

Remember he made you and I just to be with him, worship,,,,,,,, to be with is what that means.

As long as Jesus was close by his Deciples,,they could do just about anything.

Even Walk on Water.

So as long as we are with him, Life is Glorious.

Apart from him, it ain't worth spit. Just existing is not living.

He came that we could have Life and have it more abundantly.

Abundant Life is the gift he offers.

What a deal.

And some one said it is not Free and that is right , for You were purchased with a Price.

That being God's own Son , sacrificed his life for you

That whosoever believes in him will not be ashamed.

Free to you , But most costly for God.

You can be redeemed , bought with a Price.

Repent means,,,,,,, to want a change in the way you live, he alone can give you that want and the

power to change it.

So we see he supplies both, the Want to have someting better and the Means to achieve it.

Power, Ressurection Power.

After being dead 3 days, Lazuras a dear Friend of Jesus, was told to get up out of that Grave and he

came waddling out in his Grave Clothes, If he had not spoke his specific name the Whole Grave Yard

 would

have been emptied.

That's Power Brother.

yes they will, for all will be judged by the Lord Jesus Christ, who then will either send them to the Father in heaven or to their father of all lies who is in hell.
and I will add Christians/believers to your list also, for the warning below is for all.

21“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. 22“Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ 23“And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.’
24“Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25“And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. 26“Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27“The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great was its fall.”

28When Jesus had finished these words, the crowds were amazed at His teaching; 29for He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.
