Why would anyone shave a cow like that?

Broussard, Louisiana

« on: June 26, 2010, 06:40:05 PM »

Left out of the house in Broussard, Louisiana yesterday about 8:00 and had to take care of some rat killing in town before heading out, so I didn't go north bound and down until almost 9:30.  Rode up I-49 for about 170 miles and then took 174 near Ajax over to La-1 and up to Coushata and up to Ringold on 171 and then hit 154.  About 10 miles south of Gibsland, Louisiana on 154 is where Bonnie Elizabeth Parker and Clyde Chesnut Barrow were ambushed by a posse on May 23, 1934 and had 167 rounds fired into the car hitting Bonnie and Clyde 50 times each.

This was the road that Clyde was traveling down in his stolen car when he stopped and was ambushed.

Continued up 154 to Gibsland, Louisiana and got on I-20 heading west.

Crossed over into Texas.  Weather was awesome - about 97 degrees so I got to work on my tan is all I can say.

Got off in Marshall, Texas and got on 154 in Texas and from there to Gilmer and then about 4 miles west from there got on 852 and boy howdy, that was some beautiful roads and beautiful country through there.  Turned the Elvis up on the iPod and enjoyed the day.  After 374 miles from my house, I rolled into....

It sure don't get better than this.  Got to meet and spend some fellowship with Brother Ranger and Sister Catfish.

Well, let me tell you - these fine, fine folks sure know how to show hospitality to an ol' Cajun Desperado.  The fire was put on and let's just say that a big ol' hunk of tender ribeye was seared up.

We got to watch deer.

And play with Lucky.

Ol' Crow came up from the campground - everyone from the BBQ last year will remember him.  We just sat around and had wonderful fellowship throughout the evening and the quiet of those woods is deafening.

I was give a comfortable bed to lay my head for the evening and woke up this morning to the smell of coffee and smoke.  Smoke?  Yep, Ranger already had the smoker going.

So, we got to spend the day talking of old times and things that had happened in the last 10 months since we had seen each other.  Then after a day of smoking, the ribs were ready.

And man, Ms Catfish made this desert that was OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!!

It had strawberries, 8 oz of cream cheese, 16 oz of whipped cream and a pound of fresh strawberries (in the pie) with strawberries on top.  BOY HOWDY!

Then we talked some more and Ranger led me another 130 miles back to their second casa in Arlington.  Ms Catfish stayed at the casa in the piney woods, so that again, I could have a bed to lay my head.  Ranger took me down some awesome roads and once a biker, always a biker.  Everytime there was a road gator in the road, he motioned to make sure I knew it was coming and always used some form of signal to let me know of upcoming stop signs, etc.  Nice ride today to boot and put me 500 miles towards my destination.

So, the coffee is already set for in the morning and I should pull out when Ranger goes to work about 5:00.

It sure was special to spend some time with special friends again.  Lots of hugs over the last 24 hours.  I sure can't thank these two friends enough.  I know I sure have a brother and a sister over in North Texas that sure showed a desperado a large, large time.  I thank you.

More later - heading up to the high desert tomorrow.

Strider,
You know you always have a bed and a meal anytime you come our way.
It was good seeing you again after all your road trips.
Hope you have a good trip up to Colorado and say hello to Bear and Jill for us.
If ya come back thru on the way back home, we'll be at the Casa over the long July 4th weekend. It goes without saying, you are always welcome and we'll leave the light on for ya!

Boy, that Texas grub looks ssooooo much more delectable than the pics of the food you show us from over ''there" !!  Hope you passed a great time with Catfish and TxRanger Warren.  Ride safe through Texas, these boys don't take no prisoners out there on the big roads.  uglystupid2   Cheesy
