We took off this morning with Cherohala Skyline on our mind. The weather is unreal for this time of year in the south with low humidity and temps in the low to mid 80's. For July 1 you could not ask for better. Made in the shade We stopped in Robbinsville, NC for lunch . Deal's Gap was damn near empty of motorcycles We stopped on one of our passes and talked to Zee of www.zeephoto.com she claims she heard from one of the Tennessee Highway Patrol that the deadline to have The Dragon opened back up after the rockslide will not happen. Seems the mountain was in worse shape than first thought and they are still blasting rock .It's a 337 mile round trip for me and I live outside of Knoxville , TN I've said it before I'd like to have a dollar for every photo taken at this location ( Calderwood Dam from the overlook on US 129). My wife's Step-Dad own's three of these we saw this one for sale in Tellico Plains and I stopped and took a few pictures and got the information in case he's interested.Anyone want to guess the make and year ?

Nash
Metropolitan 1500
1954
first cars when on sale in March 1954 as the Nash Metropolitan, it was available in both Convertible and Hardtop versions, this really was a small car with an overall length of just 12ft 5½ inches but with a striking resemblance to the much larger Nash Rambler. If my memory serves me correctly (I have not owned a Metropolitan since 1968) the choke and starter knobs were identical to those of the Rambler. Body colours available were Blue, Red or Green with the hardtop in Grey, the convertible having a roof in Tan. The power unit was the 1200 c.c. Austin A 40 engine, introduced in 1949 for the Austin Devon, whereas the Austin Range were equipped with a four speed gearbox the Metropolitan had three forward speeds operated through a column gear changer. The front suspension was of independent wishbones, coil springs and shock absorbers, the rear, a live axle was employed with leaf springs and telescopic shock absorbers

I would think 1960 or 61, the earlier years did not have the external trunk lid, I owned a 1959 and the trunk was accessed by folding the rear seat down. Was a neat little car and got great mileage, wish I still had it.

334 miles round trip That's about what it is for me. Good report Joe. One of my cousins had a Metro back in the late '60's. We had a blast in that car. Thanks for jogging the memories. Carolina Girl and I are gonna ride the BRP north to Sparta, NC today. Would be nice if the Clinton Gang was riding with us.

Greg is going with us so noway I could shame him into a Blue Ridge Parkway ride he's only good for about 200 miles if that. Wish I'd known sooner I would have joined y'all....I took 3 weeks off and will be ridin' everyday maybe we can hook-up next week before I head out for InZane.

Joe, we will be in ur hood from the 9th-14th. We are bringing our daughter down for a college visit on the 12th. I WILL have the bike with me. Let us know what your riding plans are for that time period. I know you are heading north the 13th, but would like to hook up next weekend if possible.

We are leaving out Monday the 12th ( I think ??? Right T-Bird ??? ) for InZane. You are still more than welcome to drop the trailer here at my place for as long as needed. We should be able to get a nice ride in on Saturday the 10th ( and Sunday also if we ride for InZane on the 13th ??? ) I need to call T-Bird and get my ducks in a roll on this .Let's plan on ridin' the 10th forsure anyway.Give me a call when you plan on hittin' The Great State Of Tennessee and I'll try to meet you up on I-75 and you can follow me here if you still need to drop the trailer ...See you then my Yankee friend Bring It....LET'S RIDE

An overnighter idea that is vaguely central to all the people included above might involve all those roads I posted about the other day... when I was trying to use google to figure out if they were paved or not, I found that these advriders thought this Maggie Valley motel was a biker friendly place: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=512682&page=2http://www.holidaymotel.net/maggie_valley_hotel_rates.htm-Mike

Joe, I can't make it Wed and Thur, but if you plan on riding Saturday I'll blitz up from Tupelo and try and scrap some more of my engine cowling with you before you leave for Inzane.
I figure I've made it this close, it's time to ride the east coast motorcyle playground with you. I know it's hard for you to break away and hit the roads for a ride, but I'm sure you'll find a way.
Let me know Joe and the Big Red Somewhat Clean Land Elephant will hit the highway.
