If they come to the top of BRP (Skyline Dr) in Front Royal VA (or anywhere near) I would be happy to meet up with them and show them around.

GreenLantern57

Thanks for the update Dag! Had been wondering how the trip was going.  I know if you are not ready for this heat, it can really take a toll on you. Hope they are staying hydrated. I am keeping them in my prayers for thier safe voyage and safe return.

Dag

I just talked to Åge (1pm your time)

They have about two hours ride to St. Louis.
They will stay there one day, and than be heading for Nashville and further to Deals Gap, Townsend, TN. He would send me some pictures soon.
The question is not what you look at...but what you see...

RainMaker

I'm looking forward to the pictures of their new adventures.

Dag,

Encourage them to take the Blue Ridge Parkway.  That's a ride they won't forget.

I missed them by a day or so.  I was in St. Louis yesterday morning.

I got a text message from Unni today;

The heaven opened up .... -Heavy rain between Rolla and St Louis.
Our new rain clothes would certainly worked well if we had used it
Here is Åge and his wet money laid out to dry.

Disco beat me to it - that's Belgian dreck he's drinking, which is closer to Norway anyway.  He needs to find a Samuel Adams!!!

And..... you can't hide money.  Especially when you are drying it.  Doesn't look like a lot - probably his allowance that Unni gave him to carry. ;D

;D   Following message from Åge today:

This morning we were on a tour at the Budweiser brewery......
The question is not what you look at...but what you see...

Dag

From Unni and Åge July 22nd   2:30pm

We are now on a Mississippi Riverboat.
The original Route 66 bridge is behind us. We are now going to visit the 192 meters high Gateway Arch. You can see it in the background....
The question is not what you look at...but what you see...

RainMaker

That water probably tastes better than the budweiser....

Sorry I have not updated here in a couple of days.
Been out riding. Took the day off Friday because of the sun and the temperature. Came home this evening.

Update from Unni and Åge:

July 23rd

Nashville... A lot to see!

July 24th

Deals Gap

I heard from our friends tonight, they drug some pegs on the Tail of the Dragon and are having a blast. Settled down somewhere in VA for the night.

They are getting mighty familiar with that Interstate if they are already (purposely) dragging pegs.  Hope there are pictures from the cameras that are always there.  Should be easy to spot - two sunburned Norwegians having the time of their lives.... ;D

email yesterday (in Norwegian of course) I`ll try to translate

We finally found a computer + internet connection.

Continuing the update from where Age are drying money.
We went visiting the Meramec Caverns drip stones cave in Stenton, this was an interesting visit.

Thursday, 22nd
We were at the Budweiser brewery, .....has since realized that this is not right labeled as it is written that the Mississippi river water tastes better. We also went for a  riverboat trip on the Mississippi. That was a warm but nice trip. Next we visited Gateway Arch.
We stayed over night in West Frankfort.

Early Friday 23rd
We rode to Tennessee through Kentucky. The big turnaround this day was in Nashville. We visited Contry Music Hall of Fame, and Grand Ol Opry.
From there we rode to Cookeville where we stayed over night.

Saturday 24th
This was a great day! We rode through Knoxville to the Tail of the Dragon. We have never met so many motorcycles before, it was great!!!  We stopped at Deals Gap (as many others)
this was a great experience. This was really a nice place. We thought we should buy a T-shirt for Dag, but decided that he have to come over here and pick it up himself.
Would incidentally mention that there was a lot of trees so we had shade most of the ride. That's nice in this heat ....
We went from here on to the Cherokee Indian Reservation, further from here
we continued on the Blue Ridge Parkway. We struggled a bit with accommodation as it was
a festival in Asheville, we went into a new time zone so it was late when we stopped that night in Marion.

Sunday 25th
We started at 8am. We have learned that it is most comfortable to ride in the morning.
This morning we stopped at Grandfather Mountain. That was a beautiful place with a rich wild life and a great area for walks. Ragnhild and Arvid saw a small black bear crossing the road in front of their car.
It's a few miles between petrol stations so it's a challenge to remember to fill up .....
Along the way we stopped in Louisville. This was a popular Motorcycles stop, so here was a lot to see. We  continued to Roanoke where we are now. We are trying a plan our next step. Tomorrow we will continue the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is fortunately cooler in the mountains.
Will try to update you, but it depends on the internet access.

Regards Unni and Åge, Ragnhild and Arvid

We thought the Blue Ridge Parkway went all the way to Front Royal, but we were wrong.
Now we know what Skyline Drive is.
