I have a Z4217 that I bought in 2005......it's always been dependable, but the last time I mowed the grass, the right wheel lost most of it's power....it looks like the wheel motor/pumps are a closed unit compared to the Dixie Chopper commercial mowers we use at work.....the newer Husky's have a little clear reservoir on them now......there is a black, mushroom shaped cap that goes over the left vent hose.....but the right one either didn't come with it, or it vibrated off somewhere?......

I was hoping that maybe it just needed some fluid added to it....a local mower shop called and found out that it takes 20W/50 motor oil and that it takes around 70 oz's to fill it up.....the owners manual doesn't have ANYTHING about adding fluid to or servicing the wheel motors.....only that if you lose motion, that the belt has broken....it's fine....the left wheel still operates like it should.....

I hope that it's just a part worn out inside the wheel pump/motor....the whole assembly shows it costing around $500.....OUCH!!!!!!!!.......OUCHHHHH......

I guess I'm going to call a few mower shops tomorrow and see if they can repair rather than replace.....I was just hoping someone here may have some advice if it's happened to them before..... cooldude

Although I don't have a Husqvarna, I do own a Dixon 44" Speed ZTR and when I purchased it I called Dixon to find out how the hell to chang oil in the hydro units and complained why wasn't this info in the owner's manual.  They informed me that they are lifetime lubricated as long as there are no leaks and if I wanted to change oil in them to make me feel better I could.  Thay also told me to use Mobile1 and I do not remember the weight.  Mine has similar vent caps as yours.  I would guess that each of those hydro units a very expensive and they also look like a pain to remove and replace.  My Dixon is a GREAT mower!

Good luck

Yeah.....I fear that they were designed to be "lifetime" units....well.....5 years isn't a lifetime.....there is a little dust on the motor as though it had leaked some fluid over the years, but not much more than is on the other motor......it's hard to see anything from the way it's mounted on the frame......I hope it's just some seals or something that can be replaced instead of having to use a new motor..... Sad

Wouldn't that be something? A Valkyrie zero turn mower.

Sorry no help here Stanley. Bought a used Dixie Chopper about 5 years ago, rebuilt the deck and got less than $2500 in it. And I cut our 1.25 acres and my in-laws about 4 acres and occasionally about 6 acres of pasture. Love that DC.

Yeah....I have 3-60" cut commercial model Dixie Choppers at work....the oldest one is about 15 yrs old and it STILL runs better than some of the other crews newer ones.....the commercial models have oil coolers on them, cost around $9,000-$10,000 new and are no comparison to the homeowners model husky I have......

No,but I stayed at a Holiday Inn...... Grin. I have a Black Rock commercial mower and each side has a Spin-on Filter.Do the Huskies have the same set-up?Seems like the set-up would keep the hydro oil cleaner.JB.

These units seem to be self contained and if they have a filter, it must be internal?.....got to make sure the fluid level is right....I'm probably going to have to take the motor off the mower to do that.... Sad

I have a Z4817 .....it's always been dependable, I had issues that sounds the same. I found that the hub shear pin gave way on one drive wheel, it had just enough to catch until a load was placed on it, then it wouldn't work. A little shear pin that is a special size only from Husky fixed it. I thought I had hydro prbms also. "NOT" just $8 shear pin and a little work.......Pull your wheels off before digging into hydro", Critter
