4-Week Road Trip-- Suggestions?

Hey guys, I'm gonna hit the road at the end of August for four weeks. Plans include camping my way from San Jose, CA to Santa Fe, NM, then to Austin, TX for a few days. From there on to Big Bend National Park, Guadalupe Mountains NP, back to Santa Fe for a day or two, then up to Denver to visit family before making my way back through the National Parks in southern Utah. If anyone has suggestions for things to see/places to go, or advice for a long road trip, I'd be happy to hear it.

While in the Bid Bend area, be sure to run the River Road... (There are two "River Roads" in Big Bend, one is a dirt road, I'm not talking about that one...)

Basically, from Big Bend take FM 170 west to Presidio, then turn around and go back... The road follows the Rio Grande, so it's got lots of fun twists and turns...

(Disclaimer, I haven't researched how safe that area is lately, I know there's a lot of border violence lately, not sure how in scope the Presidio region is...)

Give me a shout when you are in the Austin area and I can show you some cool roads. While in west Texas check your fuel stops. It can be a long way between towns. The Davis Mountains state park is on the way to Big Bend (depending on your route) is a great place to camp and ride. The Mc Donald observatory is near the park. Watch for state troopers (don't ask how I know)

Turquoise Trail east of Alberquerque. Go thru the town of Madrid where "Wild Hogs" was filmed. Take a cable car ride up to Sandia Peak.

In CO Mt. Evans is a must as is Hwy 149 thru Lake City. I believe this is one of the most scenic roads in the lower 48. Of course the Million Dollar Highway is great as well.

 While in Terlingua try and get by the Star Theathre Cafe and the La Kiva bar. The La Kiva is in the the camp grounds just after you cross the terlingua river headed toward the river road.

In NM I recommend taking US-285 north to state route 68 (near Espanola) up to US-64 and head East to Eagle Nest and on to Raton.
