Willow-Thank you! Perhaps adding a political forum to would do the trick, and then we can get back to posting motorcycle info, rides, misc. neat stuff, and requests to help each other out on the general board. Call me crazy, but I sure would appreciate a break from all the political cr@p on the general board.

Might I suggest an Off Topic Board to handle all that is not General M/C Related......  I know of other boards that do this and it stays clear of the General Board, but still gives a little romper room for those wanting to play other than MC.  We all need to vent or share some other than MC related things anyhow now and then....     Just my .02 cents...

You can Vaporize those posts or .... move em to an Off Topic Board.....  as soon as ya like.

While I don't post much (as can be verified), I read this forum nightly.  I personally enjoy reading many of the political postings whether I agree with them or not.  I'd hate to see political or anything else be moderated and deleted.  Yes, there have to be rules of conduct and I whole heartedly support that but, as long as it's family safe, I think it should be allowed.  Everyone has their own personal standards as to what's acceptable but to deny a good political discussion is simply Un-American in my opinion.  Realizing we're not talking about Constitutional Rights but then again, Freedom of Speech is something I've kind of gotten used to.  Moderating that right away just doesn't sound like a good thing.  Yeah, I love my Valkyrie and I also love what it represents to me Freedom.
Creating a special area for politial or off topic discussions would  be a much better and easier thing to do versus deleting a thread cause it didn't fit a moderator's idea of what this forum is all about.
Just my opion, it's not worth much but, I'll still stand by it.

For those that don't like political threads, why the heck do you open them or, once opened and you realize what it is, use the back button and get out.  I simply can't understand why that concept is so tough.  I don't have a vote in this but.............

Please take a moment to read my post originating this thread.  I didn't promise to remove "good political discussions" (although I do think that's a pretty small subset), but only those posts which appear to be intended specifically to provoke a cyber fight.

As to establishing a separate board for items that don't belong on the General board, we really don't want to start down that slope.  I know there are a lot of boards that do that, but they don't have the feel of the VRCC board.  Besides, it's a General board.  If it doesn't belong on a General board it doesn't belong at all.

I know our readers can choose to skip over posts, but when they have to wade through or over so much to get to what they want to see, some will (and have) just stop bothering to visit.

My view of the message board is that it's a sort of internet version of a large social gathering.  It's my job to make that gathering as inviting and functional for as many of our members as possible.  When a boisterous few dominate the many conversations in the gathering or when a boisterous few become abusive, the social experience begins to break down and people will start to leave the party.

That's how I see it.

I'm still smiling.     Smiley

I'm all behind paring down the political BS but I really think it wouldn't be a bad idea to try a separate area-just take the old Inzane thread (hardly got any use) and rename it "Political Thread". See what happens? Only takes a few mouse clicks to re-title something and a few more to get rid of it if unhappy afterwards.

It'll hardly get any use  Wink

I'm happy with the moderators moderating... most of us rarely or ever will post anything that gets
tossed, any ones I ever posted that got deleted were just adding flames to the fires that most of us
don't care to see anyhow... keep posting whatever you want here, most/all of it belongs here, most of
us don't really know each other, just act like you're among friends...

Here's some almost 20 (good grief!) year old pictures I found from when Carolyn and I started
building our house...

This is a MOTORCYCLE forum board,.....do we really need to discuss God, government, and guns?

I agree that as motorcyclists we need to band together to fight anti-motorcycle legeslation. But bikers need to at the very least check out the AMA, ABATE, and the MRF. Maybe the VRCC should add a link to those organizations.

I don't want government intervention into all aspects of my life. That is why I am a member of both the AMA and ABATE of MI.

If you are a conservative or liberal, there are forum boards that will let you vent, or inform others. Please keep this board for motorcycle related issues.

I like the feel of this board.  I'd drop what I was doing to give ANY of you guys a rescue, and / or toss a burger down your neck if you're in town.

I also like talking about "stuff" not MC related with people who share common belief.

I try to keep myself level about them.

For me, if we went ALL MC related... it'd be a boring board.  I am a moderator on a hunting forum that is that way... and I don't like it.  It's just not a lot of fun.

It's not like threads scoll off PAGES and PAGES in a day.  skim 2 pages of threads and you'll usually be caught up for a couple days worth of new posts.

JMO.

Ride safe ya'll.

Did you mean "morons" instead of "maroons"?  If you meant to say "maroons", that would be a very controversial remark. Neither is called for.

I don't agree with your views, but I defend your right to state them on this free-for-all board under the current rules and regulations.  But I think you should either remove or revise your low blow comment.

Warner Brothers cartoon, Bugs Bunny. I believe Mr. Bunny replies at one point,"Aw, whata buncha maroons!" This would be part of a humor-based dialogue. No need to thank me.

Maroons as used by Bugs Bunny was a mispronunciation of "morons".  Maroons were runaway slaves.

Willow is right - I should just read and not post.

I'm happy with what I posted and see no need to revise nor remove.  I judge that a handful of maroons have been going off the deep end with their posts... and prima facie evidence is Willow's post (this thread).  And, you need to grasp hold of the idea that a judgment is not a 'low blow comment'... it's a judgment... to be accepted or refuted.

I don't believe he was criticizing Willow's post - he was merely pointing out that some have carried things too far, resulting in the NEED for Willow's post - NOT that Willow's post was offensive. But, I could be wrong...

Maroons - I didn't know about the slave connection. You DO learn something new, every day! But I don't see where it is an insult, even HAD he meant the Maroons as a people. I saw it through Bug's eyes, also.

I freely admit that I have, on occasion, dived into the political pool here on the VRCC. I try not to and have done much better that last few years, but like many of you; I just can’t resist the temptation, particularly when I see a post utterly void of facts. Having said that; I wholeheartedly agree that the Admin should start pulling political post that in their judgment crosses whatever line they establish.

One point though; by far some of the worst, most mean-spirited, ‘personal’ attack posting I have seen had to do with tire selection. . . . Are those going to be pulled as well? Or, as long as it’s “Valk related” it’s ok to call someone an idiot? I’m just asking . . .  It’s a slipper slope when ‘censorship’ starts up; regardless of the format being used. . . or justification for the action(s).

Hmm, anybody else remember Bugs Bunny always saying, "Whadda maroon!" instead of moron?
I really doubt it was racially intended. I say it myself (in my best Mel Blanc impression) sometimes.

Based on personal values, there are quite a few threads that have one or many members jumping on another member or group.  Bannish them all, only Valk information.  Call me silly but, this forum is made up of many "different" individuals that have one thing in common, our Valks.   When we don't allow spirited political discussion, then what's next?

Well....it's almost midnight in beautiful downtown Orlando and it's time for bed. I will say....the responses do get a tad on the personal side at times when someone posts something political or religious. Folks forget that it's usually just that person's opinion...something they have a perfect right to express within certain rules of decorum.

I fully support admin's approach on this. Soooo...now that the problem is settled, I have a few chapters to read before shutting down for the night. Have to catch up on what those nasty Philistines are up to this time.  Wink

After a couple of post someone says something to "hurt" someone's feelings then the thread proceeds by the perp being told what a low life he is ad nauseum by the victim's bros. What could be more phun than that?

So there’s the possibility of banning political postings that get out of hand?  What about those religious postings??  I was always told to not talk about religion or politics unless you wanted a fight, and sure enough, there is always a fight when you discuss these two issues.  The thing is, are you mature enough to know when to walk away?  Are you smart enough to keep your opinions to yourself?  Are you sure you’re right???  Have you ever considered looking at things from someone else’s view?  The old saying “try walking a mile in my shoes….”

I would think that most of us are mature enough to know when to say when, but apparently some aren’t.  The good thing about typing your thoughts onto a screen is, you can always walk away for a second and rethink your thoughts before you push the post button.

So, remember, before you hit that “post” button on the bottom, think of whether you will regret typing what you type.  (BTW, you can always delete your own post, you don’t have to wait until willow does it!!)

I value the knowledge that others have not because it’s free, but because it prevents me from making the mistake myself.
